I teach Mathematics in vocational high school. This year I teach Economic Mathematics of a chef's profession in the 3rd grade (17-18 year old students). Their curriculum includes the calculation of meal prices in the restaurant. They have to use previously acquired knowledge of percent calculation.
For this lesson I will use our classroom with tablet devices and smart screen. Students have learned earlier on the Computer Science how to use Excel spreadsheets and I will recommend to do their calculations in one spreadsheet but they can decide to use some other program of their choice.
Most of their learning is collaborative: they will work in groups of four, they have to decide for which meal they will calculate price, they have to explore prices and amounts of food used in their meals, convert measures in the recipe into legal measures, and in the end they have to decide what will the margin (profit) for this meal be. Then they will discuss is this good price (too cheap, or too expensive and is it competitive on the market).
The product of learning will be poster made in Glogster that thay will present in front of class on smart screen.
