America and its citizens were being threatened by the Soviet Union every day. Americans had to learn to live under fearful conditions and stressful times. The Soviet Union and the U.S. had ballistic missiles aimed at each other from multiple locations and countries. American kids in school had to duck under desks for drills and were afraid they could be bombed at any moment.
