Once they have been given time to think, they pair up and discuss. Prompt them when it is time for the other person to speak - something like a high-five could signify the speaker swap. Share time can be what a student shared themselves in the pair or you could also ask students to share what their partner said to promote listening skills. You may also call upon students at random using name sticks so that you're not only asking for students with their hand up in order to create accountability. Sharing isn't required every time.

To promote listening skills, students can be asked to take notes based on what they're listening to. You could use this when students watch a video, listen to explicit teaching/modeling, think, pair, record or even when you group students in a jigsaw to share their learning about a topic (great for inquiry). Students could use a graphic organiser to guide their note taking. Graphic organiser resources are available in The Oral Language Book.
