I think my organizational experience was crucial to getting somewhat relevant jobs. Being in the other side of employment processes to, I can say that “real life” experience ways quite heavily

Pay

I look regularly at job ads and am always surprised at how little the pay is for Geographers/Spatial Planners opposed to jobs in other fields. E.g. 2800€/month and needing to have a master's. People in other fields can easily have this pay without a uni degree

Different internships

I luckily managed to do some internships and hold student jobs related to my studies. I think the biggest hurdle is getting the first work experience - from then on it sometimes even evolves naturally.

Low Pay

I think that’s an ongoing problem in my job search and my peers. There are jobs out there but they pay soo low that’s unimaginable to live on with inflation roaming the streets. Whilst any type of tech job, even entry level outdoes a master. I’m so confused by our current employment landscape.

Unpaid or freelance internships

From an architecture background it is widely accepted that unpaid internships are the main way of getting paid work down the line, and even then they regularly want you to work as a freelancer to avoid paying you properly and which leaves you without sick leave, pensions and numerous other benefits of being an employee.

Process lasting usually more than 6 months, several rounds of interviews, testing of skills for international organization, 2+professional references.

I applied for 100 internship to get only maybe 2,3 offers :///

Getting the first "real" experience

It was really difficult for me to break into my industry and I applied for hundreds of internships/jobs before landing my first position after university

Unpaid Internships

There are so many unpaid internships out there and myself and many others cannot afford to take an unpaid internship.

Misleading Outcomes

I feel like education does not always transfer to a reliable job with a livable wage and that makes me very sad :(
