Title of the article: could tax increase speed up the economy? Democrats say yes
Link to article: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/05/business/Elizabeth-Warren-tax-increases.html
Summary of the article : the article explains that the tax on wealthy people and the companies will increase and make the economy better. The article explains that if the put tax on wealthy or people who get paid more than 250,000$ per year, not only person but also the companies. The article also explains that they will make 3 billions $ and thats will increase the economy also that’s will make the country have more money because of that tax. The tax will help the middle class of people and poor people. The article explains that with this tax they will improve the education and the child care, because they believe that if they take of the education the economy will increase.
Reflection of the article: the article address the economy growth which is helps the country to get money from wealthy people , however the article explains that will increase the economy. When companies pay more taxes they will think about how they are going to spend less and get more money, so they will make everything expensive because they have to pay taxes, however a lot of people they will lose their jobs because the trying to spend less money. Another thing is going to be tough to find jobs or having less opportunities jobs because the companies trying do not spend money. The companies are actually making the economy increase because they have a lot of job opportunities, customers, and make money. If the companies have to pay more taxes and that’s will decrease the economy because they will have spent less money, getting more money. The article explains how the economy will decrease because wealthy people, however they have spent less money and getting more money because they have to pay taxes, for an example if rich person tries to make new business, however is going to be hard because that person has pay more taxes.

Citation: "Could Tax Increases Speed Up The Economy?

Title of the article: oil prices likely to ‘stay down ‘ for months: energy analysts fear impact of fast-spreading coronavirus.
Link to the article: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/27/oil-prices-energy-analysts-fear-impact-of-fast-spreading-coronavirus.html.
Summary: the article explains how the oil price is going to be decreased because of the coronvirus , the article shows the international benchmark Brent crude traded at 58.99 and going down nearly 2.8%. The article shows the numbers of people who have the corona virus which 2,700 people, however including 461 people in critical condition as the death toll rose 80. The article explains that the world health organization the virus which is spreading via human to human which is also an emergency in China. The article explains that this is not a global health emergency. Also the corona virus ultimately have more impact on sentiment than be a lasting negative for the economy or markets.

Reflection: the article explains how the oil price is going to down because of the corona virus in China, and I believe this is true because people in China they can not go to work or even school, however people can not have a normal life and they can not do anything about it just because the corona virus is spreading to humans. People in China can go anywhere for an example if someone wants to want to go to another country so , imagine how that is going to be hard for that person to even travel. The article explains that the corona virus is only China, however it is an emergency right now. I think is going to a lo of people and companies to do their job. Also for the market people can not even go out and buy some stuff which is only the oil price but everything else in general. Imagine if the corona virus is spreading in the world, how people can live thier life or travel, for an example right now people can not go to China because of the corona virus and this is hard because the airline is losing money and people do not the car and stay home and they can not go to work.

Citation: "Oil Prices Likely To 'Stay Down' For Months: Energy Analysts Fear Impact Of Fast-Spreading Coronavirus". 2020. The article shows that Macy’s has shuttered more then 100 stores since 2015. Macy’s is going to open small stores which is help the company to growth, the article explains that Macy’s looks abysmal which is mean the company is decrease, and they trying to improve. The article explains that in 2022 and with a smaller base stores and the company increase between 23.2 billion and 23.9 billion dollars. Macy’s stock has lost well over half its value, and its market value has tumbled to $5.1 billion. Macy’s is calling a “ transition year “ which means that it expects same store sales to be negative.

Reflection: it is very interesting that Macy’s has a plan to make more money or trying to better but with close more 125 stores, I think the company has trying to jump, however they trying to improve which is helps the company to stay in good shape. There is a lot of ways that can help improve because a lot of people losing their jobs, however the company is trying to open up new stores which is mean that they still want people to have a job, in other words a lot of people losing their jobs and with the new plan that they can improve their company they st need people who work on their new stores. The article mentions that how Walmart stock is growing up to 22% percent because they improve their online website, which is mean that they have delivery and with quick service, I think if Macy’s do the same thing they are not going to lose money or even open a new stores. Macy’s has to wait until 2022 to get a money, which is mean that they just don’t know if is going to happen or not , but they trying to improve their way to increase the company that’s will help the company to grow up.

Citation: "Macy’S To Close 125 Stores, Cut 2K Corporate Jobs, In Hunt For Growth". 2020. The retailer it will save $60 million annually by changing how it buys shipping bags. It also making workers’ vests out of recyclable materials, cutting costs by 15%. Walmart is on the way to save 100 million per year by centralizing , however which is small business to grow up. Also Walmart it would save at least $30 million for the year by swapping out existing stepping stools. Walmart also saved $200 million by changing the light bulbs, Walmart was saving $20 million by using a new floor wax. Walmart shares were last up 1% the stock has climbed a little more than 19% over the 12 months.

Reflection: it’s very interesting that Walmart is making small changes to make more money, which is good for the company to growth, however small changes like that can help the company to growth, but not to growth but also to improve. Walmart has a great ideas to help the company to growth, however they don’t have to think about closing stores or firing employees , which is a smart move to help the company to growth. Walmart also not just saving money but also it’s helping the community, when they change their workers vests to recyclable their clothes, which is really important for the environment. Walmart is making change for the bags , which is a good idea to save money, however not only Walmart is doing it but most stores right now doing it , for example if you want to some stuff from grocery shop, however they will ask you if you want to buy a bag for whatever price, this is can help the company to make money and make people pay it and use it for recycle, which is good for the company and the environment.

Citation: Thomas, Lauren. 2020. The article explains that empty jumbo jets arriving at deserted airports. The article explains that the airlines stocks dropped sharply, and the airlines maybe will cancel their flights because of the corona virus. The article describes this issue is like the 9/11 attack, which means that the airlines are loosing money. The article explains that the corona virus is actually affecting the economy in general and the stock. The article explains that the aviation was already loosing money after the Boeing 737 max crashes, however the airlines are loosing money and cancel flights and the airplane is out of service because of the two crashes. The article explains that both United airlines and American Airlines down 13 percent, however the article explains that how the sales are going to down because of the corona virus.

Reflection : this something normal that we see the airlines are loosing money because of the corona virus, which is hard for airlines to handle this issue, people right now are going to fly because of the corona virus. I think this is something normal for the airlines to lose money but this could be for short time , however is going to be hard to travel for some reason, people are afraid to travel because of the corona virus and people will travel for important things, people don’t want to be sick. This article talked about the 9/11 attacked , however this is interesting because it is kind of the same situation because both the corona virus and 9/11 have almost the same issue because people are afraid to fly or travel, I also wanted contact that with Boeing 737 max airplane, people were talking about because they are not going to Fly the Boeing 737 max after the two crashes, however people are afraid to fly the Boeing 737 max because they don’t want to put themselves in danger. I think if the corona virus is gone people will travel and fly but for now people are afraid to fly, however the stock will go up if the corona virus is gone. The article shows that the effects may be limited, but worries are big. The article shows that 74% of small business are not impacted yet, and 23 % say they are negatively affected, just 3% report positive impact. Among the business that shows 42% were hurt , 39% were experiencing supply chain disruptions, and just 4% they have sick employees.

Reflection: I’m not suppressing that small business are going to lose a lot of money and customers because of the corona virus, because many companies right now are loosing money, especially right now. I think that the small business will affect by the corona virus in the future because of the number of the corona virus cases is going up, however people are not going to buy stuff that they don’t need. I think the small business like supermarket is not going to lose sales just because people are going to buy stuff that they need like food for example but for other small business are going to lose money just because people want to buy stuff that they need. Now we see that a lot of stores are closed because of the corona virus, for example bar , night club, because people can’t be in crowded places, however the owners are not having a way to even think about their small business because they are losing money and close, because of the corona virus most stores are closed and that will affect the small business in general.

Citation: Rogers, Kate. 2020. The article explains that unemployment claims filed with the states last week jumped to 281,000 from 211,000 the week earlier. The article explains that the economicsts had expected about 220,000 claims for week ended March 14 , with a bigger spike in the coming week. The article shows the unemployment rapidly rise to 8% , the article explains next week the number is going to be up to 600,000 , which is doubled. The article explains the corona virus affecting the business, and small business in general. The article explains that the White House has proposed stimulus program of more than 1 trillion, that will help the business. The article explains that California, Texas, and Washington state saw the largest increase of unemployment.

Reflection: these corona virus is affecting everything right now not just business but almost everything in the world. The unemployment in the a few weeks will go up , however this is something normal that we see because the corona virus, which is mean that people do not go to work so unemployment is going to up and people losing jobs and at the same there is no available jobs. I think if everything is closed I think the unemployment will increase, because staying home, but not just stay home but people don’t have money to live, however if people stay home doing nothing or go out for their jobs I think they are going to affect by the corona virus which is mean they are going to fight to live . The article mentions that three states saw the unemployment number is going up , for now I think all the states will see the unemployment numbers are going up because of the corona virus. The White House has plan to help the business, I think that’s will help but for now they don’t know until when we are going to have the corona virus.

Citation: Domm, Patti. 2020. The article explains that the companies are losing money because of the corona virus, however most of the companies right now are shutting down because of the Coronavirus. The article shares an example of that, and how the Cheesecake Factory past week can not pay the rent payments because of the last business. The article explains that many companies trying to survive and not going to have a bankruptcy. The article explains that most of the companies are getting money from people and that affect their business because not many people are buying goods because of the corona virus.

Reflection: a lot of companies around the world are losing money right now because of the corona virus, and this something normal because people are af to even food from restaurants. The other is that the companies right now are trying to save some money to not just survive but also trying to pay rent payments but because of the corona virus is going to difficult because this time is that many people are going to stay and everything is shutdown, which hard for companies to even save cash. I think we are going to see many restaurants are closed in the future because they don’t make money but for big companies they may survive and get some support but for small companies we are going to see a lot of them closed because of this pandemic which is affecting a lot of companies in the world. Also we see that many companies can not pay their rent payments now , which is mean if we have the corona virus until the end of the year , I think they are going to close because they cannot even pay their rent. Because of the corona virus a lot of people are going to stay home and not go out and eat because they also some don’t have a job because some places are shutdown right now and people trying to save money because they don’t have a job , which is mean most of the companies they getting money from customers but because of the corona virus people don’t have the money to even pay food.

Citation: "Scary Times For U.S. Companies Spell Boom For Restructuring Advisers". 2020.

Name of the article: US weekly jobless claims double to 6.6 million.

Link to the article: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/02/weekly-jobless-claims.html

Summary: the article explains that unemployment insurance skyrocketed last week , which is mean a lot of unemployment trying to have the insurance. The article explains that the economics did survey about how many unemployment insurance, and they found that 3 million in a week , then the number in the following double. The article talked about the 2 trillion by the government is that to stay unemployment rate longer. The article explains that many companies are freezing their employees, which is the mean a lot of unemployment we will have. The article explains that since everything close the number of the insurance of unemployment will go up because of the corona virus outbreak.

Reflection: I think we going to more unemployment in the next week because of the corona virus outbreak, and many are loosing their jobs and they can’t pay their rent , or even living their life, in the next a few weeks we are going to not the double but we will see more then because many states are shutting down almost everything, which is mean that there is no more jobs or even people can find jobs because there is no places and companies trying to quit their employees because they loosing money. The article explains that many people are asking for insurance, I think many people will ask for the insurance in the next a few weeks. The 2 trillion I think people have a lot of stuff to pay and , I think is not going to help the unemployment to stay longer because people they want to get paid every week to pay rent and other stuff.

Citation: Cox, Jeff. 2020.

Name of the article: US import prices post largest drop in over five years.

Link to the article: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/14/us-import-prices-post-largest-drop-in-over-five-years.html

Summary: the article explains that he US import drooped by the most in more than five years, however the article explains that the reason of that is the corona virus outbreak. The US import prices dropped 2.3% last month , which is mean the largest in five years, also in February the prices drooped to 0.7% which excludes tariffs, were previously reported to have decreased. The article showing that the decrease in flights tickets, hotels, and other stuff , however the article explains that the gasoline prices are going down. The article explains that the prospects of a deep recession and an oil price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia which has been resolved.

Reflection: I think this something normal that we see the import prices going down because of the corona virus, however most companies are losing money, which means that the companies are not going to buy goods because they don’t need to buy more goods because they don’t have customers. In the next a few months if we still have the corona virus outbreak I think the import prices are going to be down and also we are going to see more companies are closing because of the corona virus outbreak. I think that many hotels and flights tickets are going to down because most people are staying home right now and they are not going to leave so I think the two important things for people are the medical stuff and food , and I believe these are important for people now during the corona virus outbreak. The gasoline prices are going down, I think this is something normal we see because right now people are not using their cars right now like before, people are now afraid to go outside and most countries telling their citizens that do not leave the house, not in the USA but around the world people are required to stay home during the corona virus outbreak. For the oil price I think it’s good move from both Saudi Arabia and Russia which means they sell more oil , and at the same time it’s a great opportunity for countries to buy oil right now.

Citation: "US Import Prices Post Largest Drop In Over Five Years". 2020. CNBC. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/14/us-import-prices-post-largest-drop-in-over-five-years.html.

Name of the article: Weekly jobless claims hit 5.245 million, raising monthly loss to 22 million due to corona virus.

Link to the article: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/16/us-weekly-jobless-claims.html

Summary: the article explains that number of unemployment is going up because of the corona virus outbreak with 5.245 million more Americans filing first time, which is claimed for unemployment insurance last week. The article explains that the labor department reported that the crisis total over 22 million, nearly wiping out all the job gains since the Great Recession. The article explains that the total was a bit worse than 5 million expected from the economics. The article shows the numbers of unemployment reported total of 6.606 million was revised up slightly to 6.615 million. The four week moving average, which during normal times is helpful in smoothing out weekly volatility in the numbers, jumped to 6.066 , million an increase of 2.568 million previous week.

Reflection: this is something normal we see that the numbers of unemployment are going up because of the corona virus. Almost everything close during the corona virus outbreak, however people don’t go to work or even can pay their bills. I think the numbers of unemployment are going to be more that in the next a few weeks or maybe months, however people need to have insurance and make sure after the corona virus situation can have a job. When the country reopen the places I think is going to be tough for people to find jobs, because some places need money and they are not looking for employees, however some places could close forever because of the corona virus. Many states around United States is actually know that people are loosing jobs and some places are loosing money or maybe close , however I think is going to hard for places to reopen because they don’t have ability to buy stuff or even have new stuff because they already have too many. After reopen the country I think is going to hard to have customers especially people who are afraid to go outside, so still it’s actually a big issue for stores to get customers or get money because can not pay their rent or even have a job or even want to buy some stuff that they don’t need.

Citation: Cox, Jeff. 2020.
