1. Mr Ho could have said to Soon Cheng that he was not following his script because at first Soon Cheng did not do well in his subjects especially in Mathematics but he made a big jump from F9 to A1. This tells that Soon Cheng is not following his script and he needs to be replaced. My prediction is that his script is to work at the noodles stall where his father is working to make a living for a family.

Before:
Soon Cheng did not seem disturbed and did not ignore Sydney.

After:
Soon Cheng walked slowly as if he was measuring his steps and he felt disturbed. Moreover, he did not answer Sydney's question when he asked the first time.

Before:
Soon Cheng was very active and played basketball with Sydney frequently.

After:
Soon Cheng made his way calmly towards his belongings and did not come to play basketball matches with with Sydney.

Before:
Soon Cheng stayed back for lessons with Sydney and they studied together.

After:
Soon Cheng never stayed back for lessons with Sydney and never studied with him. Instead he was back to his old business by helping his father at the noodle stall

Before:
Soon Cheng did not have any rowdy activities

After:
Soon Cheng smoked when he went to collect his O-level result slip and he did not have such habits before

1. I think that Mr Ho could have warned Soon Cheng about being replaced. If Mr Ho had replaced Soon Cheng, Soon Cheng would have continued playing with Sydney. However Soon Cheng kept to himself as he would be worried about being replaced as shown in the text. This suggest that Soon Cheng was not replaced, only warned.


2. Soon Cheng hardly hung out with Sydney on his studies again and he started spending more time at his father's noodle stall. By the time the O-level results came out, Soon Cheng's physical appearance had changed, his hair had grown long, he had an earring, carried a pager around and he started to smoke.

1.   I think Mr Ho could have said something to warn him to follow his script of being a rebellious and a bad student since he got good marks for the test.
     This can be seen from 'He wore a mask of irritation every time Sydney broached the subject of after-school work'
     The phrase"he wore a mask of irritation" suggests soon cheng 's bad attitude after talking to Mr Ho as he was irritated.

2.  His relationship with Sydney became more distant. He started becoming rebellious and was going with the flow, like he could not care less. The evidence to support our conclusion is, 'Soon Cheng shrugged. "So-so," he replied, putting the cigarette to his mouth...looking elsewhere.' 
This suggests that Soon Cheng could not care less for his o-level results as he shrugged even though he did badly.
The fact that Soon Cheng just smoked and looked away from Sydney suggests that their relationship is distant.

1.I think that Mr Ho could have threatened to replace Soon Cheng. This can be seen from Soon Cheng "measuring his steps" and looking "subdued, almost apologetic" after his talk with Mr Ho.
the phrase, "measuring his steps" suggests that Soon Cheng was feeling nervous about being replaced. the phrase, "subdued, almost apologetic" suggests that Soon Cheng was sorry about ignoring and agreeing to study with Sydney to improve his results as he was not supposed to be smart in his script. Thus, Mr Ho threatened to replace Soon Cheng as Soon Cheng shows signs of being nervous about being replaced and apologetic about agreeing to study with Sydney to improve his grades when he wasn't supposed to.


2. Soon Cheng became more subdued and less cheerful. He was not as playful as he was before and he spent more time helping out with his father's stall. He also spent less time studying and started smoking. His physical appearance changed too, his hair grew longer and he wore an earring.

2.Soon Cheng looked low-spirited and downcast.He was also not very interested in spending time with Sydney anymore.     The word" apologetic" suggests that Soon Cheng felt sorry to leave Sydney all alone. 
    The word"plodding" suggests that Soon Cheng was walking slowly and reluctantly towards the court as he was scolded and warned that he might be replaced. 
    Thus, Mr Ho could have warned and scolded Soon Cheng about being replaced and not following his script.

    1)I think Mr Ho could told Soon Cheng has to get replaced because in section 4 there is a sentence saying that "Sydney learnt what happened when you didn't follow their script when Soon Cheng disappeared in Secondary Three".The word "disappeared"suggests that Soon Cheng has been replaced by the monitors.the words"didn't follow his script" suggests that Soon Cheng is not allowed to get good results in his script and therefore got replaced.Thus,Soon Cheng  did not spend time with Sydney due to him being replaced by his beta

Mr. Ho could have warned Soon Cheng about the consequences of him not following the script which made him more obedient and willing to follow the rules .this can be seen from Hui Ling' replacement. It took a longer time for Hui Ling to get replaced,while it took a significantly shorter time for Soon Cheng to finish the conversation with the teacher.Soon Cheng's time to get replaced was as long as a cloud passing by Sydney's point of view while Hui Ling's time to get replaced took as long as a movie.     1. Mr Ho could have told Soon Cheng that he was going to be replaced if he continued to do well in his studies Soon Cheng changed after Mr Ho talked to him. When Hui Ling  was replaced, her behaviour and appearance changed. Likewise, Soon Cheng "wore a mask of irritation" whenever Sydney mentioned about the subject of after school work.This can be seen from''there was something different from him."
