Live TV makes it hard for information to be edited certain ways which may influence viewers. Although, TV that is not live and is instead pre-taped, will more than likely have already been edited. It is the candidates' choice on whether or not they want to speak to a live audience, or record a piece that may or may not be perceived well. This kind of broadcast was popular for former President Donald Trump, who attracted live coverage by his opinions on the media and "fake news" in 2016. However, it is ultimately up for network executives to decide who gets live coverage.
