On the body, these effects disrupt the functions of our body structures. Slurred speech, vomiting and diarrhea may be part of the symptoms, as well as drowsiness, upset stomach and breathing difficulties. In the brain, judgement is impaired and perception is distorted. Decreased alertness and blackouts (memory lapses) are also common in those under influence. In the blood, alcohol causes anemia, a loss of blood cells which may lead to many serious conditions. If the blood alcohol level is too high, then that is known as alcohol poisoning or alcohol overdose which causes extremely low body temperature, dulled responses and senses, and trouble with breathing, which leas to a slow heartbeat. Alcohol also impacts the body through medication. Continued use of alcohol may result in: high blood pressure, stroke, heart-related diseases, liver disease, nerve damage, permanent damage to the brain and many other negative effects on the body. Cancer can also stem from alcohol as well as Vitamin B1 deficiency, which causes amnesia, disorientation and apathy. The mind also becomes fixed to alcohol, known as alcoholism, and depends on the substance. Without alcohol, the mind and body would experience withdrawal symptoms and may force the addict to continue, unable to break free.
