The Writing Project was a time of reflection for me. Why did I decide to become a teacher? Why do I choose everyday to serve my students? Why did I decide to transition this year from Catholic Education to Public Education?

This was my Creative Piece. I sat down with the plan to write a satirical narrative about Plato's Cave's Shadows becoming sentient and doing TikTok dances with young people while frightening teachers, but I ended up writing creative nonfiction instead. It really showed me how the creative process doesn't always cooperate with a plan.

Writing Research

I chose to study how to encourage writing confidence in English Language Learners in Secondary or post-secondary education. I found a large body of research into this topic. In fact, TESOL researchers are starting to research the impact of narrative writing on Language Learners specifically. This is the demo lesson I prepared about Genghis Khan. Students utilize a process called "Writing to Learn" where they transform information through cognitive processing and write a report card for Genghis Khan.
