Water is vital for every part of life. From basic needs like hydration and sanitation all the way to serious things like climate change, healthy ecosystems, and human survival. Unfortunately, many people around the world don't have access to clean water. In fact, in the year of 2022, 2 billion people worldwide had no access to toilets and 653 million people had no access to basic sanitation facilities at all. This has led to numerous child deaths mostly caused in developing countries. This is why the United Nations recognised that water should be a mandatory access to every person in the world. They're trying their best to provide clean drinking water to all human beings by eliminating contaminated water and lack of sanitation. If they are successful, a big part of poverty and disease in the world’s poorest countries would finally end.

https://youtu.be/cXtP9vdsRpk

If we really focus on this worldwide issue, all human beings would be able to have accessible water.

While society makes technological advances like reusable space rockets, auto driving cars, robot workers, and artificial intelligence, we keep neglecting one of the most important issues; access to sustainable water and sanitation for everyone. Today, two thirds of the global population have no safe toilets and one third does not have safe water supply. Water sources become more and more polluted as time passes, causing agriculture and other industries to get thirstier, and climate change to worsen. This is why the United Nations made one of their objectives (#6) to provide clean water and sanitation for all. To achieve this goal, we need to be smart, focused, and cooperative. All people need sustainable water to survive and thrive, and it is only fair that we put our part to make it happen.

In the last years, there have been positive changes in the global population’s health. Child mortality rates have fallen by half, maternal mortality rates have decreased by a third, the incidence of many infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria have dropped. In 1948, the World Health Organization, also known as WHO, took the responsibility for the International Classification of Diseases. WHO has contributed to many historic achievements such as identifying antibiotics, Polio, Smallpox, Tuberculosis, Malaria, AIDS, Cancer, and many more. Unfortunately, although The United Nations and WHO have worked hard to promote and protect health worldwide, thousands of people living in less developed countries have less access to a proper healthcare system.

However, due to the amount of discrimination, many people aren’t getting the proper health maintenance they deserve. If we collaborate by being kinder to one another and stop all the discrimination, AIDS could be cured by 2030. We have to leave our differences behind in order to help others and make a change. “End inequalities, end AIDS”

I personally think that this worldwide issue is one of the worst ones yet. Water is the most basic human need in order to survive. Without it, many illnesses, diseases, and viruses are more likely to spread around the globe. In my opinion, the United Nations should prioritize solving this urgent problem. Although it is listed as one of their objectives for a sustainable future, it’s not even in the top five concerns. Unsafe water has caused many people to suffer from dehydration and uncleanness. In fact, diarrhea is estimated to cause 1.5 million child deaths per year, mostly among children under five living in developing countries. If we work together to support these communities and protest for their human rights, the United Nations might take more action in it too.

Honestly, I am surprised by the amount of accomplishments the United Nations and World Health Organization have reached. Looking at all the cures they have created, I can’t imagine what our health would be like without their help. However, although there have been many great achievements in our worldwide healthcare system, there’s still some issues that must be addressed. Thousands of people, mostly living in developing countries, don’t have a proper healthcare system. Without one, illnesses, diseases, and viruses are spreading around the globe. With all the advantages that globalization has brought, I believe that the UN and WHO should put it into use and send professional doctors to countries that lack them. This would definitely create better and longer lives for the whole world.
