A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Eartn and the Sun obscuring totally the sun seen from the Earth. A total solar eclipse can be observed only if you are standing under the umbral shadow of the moon. In a total solar eclipse, the sun’s outer atmosphere can be seen. An eclipse is a rare event because moon’s orbit is tilted with respect to Earth’s orbit around the sun by about five degrees. So, sometimes the moon misses too high and sometimes too low to cause a solar eclipse.

Léane, Mailys, Loïc

The total eclipse was able to be seen from lincoln beach, Oregon to Charleston, south carolina ; Crossing Nebraska and Missouri. It was expanded over 70 milles wide. We could only see the total eclipse there because of the earth rotation and the moon position. It's not very wide also because the sun is much bigger than the moon, so the shadow is very small.
When can we see the total solar eclipse ? On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. This celestial event is a solar eclipse. Times for partial and total phases of the eclipse vary depending on your location.

  Gabriel, Mina

A total eclipse is the natural phenomenon. That is when the moon is between the sun and the Earth and stop almost the sun light. This phenomenon deprive of light just a reduced earth surface. So the sun seem like a light crown arround the moon. That is a chance that the distance of the moon and his size are proportional to those of the sun. So in fact, this equalitize is from the Thales theorem.

On the shema, that correspond as the equalitize : MN/BC=AM/AB=AN/AC.
