Hi! I'm Aaron, and I love Philippine Pop culture. The top 5 things I love most are:

OPM- (BINI, Cup of Joe, the Juans, etc.)

Filipino films- (Outside, I'm drunk, I love you, etc.)

Filipino Meme Culture

Filipino Vlogs

Filipino Festivals

Overall, I'd describe myself as a pretty laid back guy, I like to enjoy the simpler, yet finer things in life. I don't consider myself as someone with unique tastes or whatever, that's why I'm not ashamed to say that my tastes can be classified as 'normie' or whatever.

The Filipino Meme Culture

The one thing I love the most about Filipino culture is how utterly unserious we are as a people. We could endure one of the harshest situations in the world and still find a way to make light of it. A recent example would be the recent bagyong Carina wherein people in those affected areas were the first ones to make tiktok videos of themselves dancing and overall just making the most of the situation.

The Unserious Nature of Filipino Resilience

Filipino meme culture embodies a certain form of resilience that is embraced but not quite often understood by those from other countries. Even in the face of disasters like the recent Typhoon Carina, Filipinos often respond with lighthearted humor, creating tiktoks and memes that bring a touch of absurdity to difficult situations. This kind of content highlights the Filipino tendency to remain unserious even in serious times, showcasing an attitude that refuses to let adversity define the overall mood. Through humor, Filipinos create an alternative narrative to calamity, one where laughter and camaraderie take center stage, creating emotional resilience and community solidarity.

Just like with Carnival Theory, this overall vibe provides a temporary space where traditional expectations of seriousness, fear, and concern during crises are replaced with humor, parody, and irony. Carnival Theory suggests that by embracing the “carnivalesque”, a space where the usual rules are upended, people can question and redefine their experiences. In the same way, these unserious memes allow Filipinos to momentarily subvert the weight of disasters, reframing the experience through laughter and defiance. In these moments, meme culture does more than entertain; it fosters a resilient, shared identity and creates change by teaching people to face life’s storms with humor and courage.
