"Recovering Voices" is not necessarily an artifact but I would argue the Smithsonian's work through this project is amazing and extremely important. I feel blessed that my parents taught me Turkish; it allows me to communicate with my extended family and millions of others as well. To think that one day, there would be a Turkey without it's own language is scary. The people at Recovering Voices, by trying to preserve and document these endangered languages, are helping people embrace their own cultures like I get to by speaking Turkish. It means giving back and providing and expecting nothing in return. These women and school girls chose to help their communities to ensure that millions of crops survived. A leader and/or leadership allows the people surrounding them to learn and grow. Jim Brown was an incredible athlete; he has been elected into the hall of fame for both lacrosse and football. He also rose to fame in acting when he became one of the first mainstream Black action movie stars. In my eyes, Brown is undeniably a leader to all youth. During a time period where it was not easy for a Black man to be successful, Brown proved that through hard work and dedication (and maybe a little bit of genetic luck), one can reach their goals. Going on to become a successful actor in addition to a professional athlete also shows to those same kids, that there is no limit to one's success. The intent behind the English may have not been completely in the best interest of all Native Americans but Pocahontas demonstrates this pillar as she served as a bridge between the English and Native Americans (two very different groups of people). Once traveled to England, she exposed English people to her culture and in turn, helped educate them on people they otherwise would never have interacted with. With scholarship comes mastery and contribution. David Ho is one of the most well-known and prominent Doctors in his field and he has proven that he is extremely educated in it as well. Dr. Ho, fortunately, has not stopped with just understand the AIDS pandemic but also has helped develop ways to help prevent the transmission of AIDS.
