Trying coiling again! I have a 10 pound bag of clay in the basement so I wanted to try one more coil piece! I have about 5 coils on here and I rolled out another 6 I am adding. This piece is one I would love to focus on building with a shape that flows. My plan is to add roughly 10 more coils in total and then hit with a flat bat and shape it in ways that move side to side. I want this to look smooth and feel natural. One thing I like about this piece is that the base is flat and I plan to leave it that way. One issue I am having with this piece is once I finish the coiling this week and make it move side to side, what will the next step be? It feels unfinished in my head and I am not sure what else to do with it.

This piece is going to be the first wall piece I work on! I have loved working on it so far but I am having trouble with a few things. The way I started this is by rolling out a slab and then drawing on the top of it. One issue I have is I feel like my lines of the head, neck and hair look a little bit sloppy but maybe thats how drawing on clay looks…? Next, I made 7 pinch pots and slipped and scored those on around the head. These will be representing either things about my life and symbols of me or each pot will have a piece of my cup series in it. So like for the cup thats purple, I would think of something monochromatic or something else to put in the pinch pot. I feel like this wall piece face represents me but also at the same time is super generic and I love that about it. I have a vision of the pinch pots having different things in them that could be irreplaceable. I rolled out a coil for the nose and eyebrows and small coils for the lips. I plan to bring this in to school on Thursday or Friday and give it to Ms. Fligel so she can put it in the kiln and then once its done I can glaze it! One thing I think looks awkward is the lips and also the unevenness of the pinch pots only being on one side of the face. I like how its asymmetrical but at the same time I am not sure if I do. Also, do you think the lips need to be fixed because they are messy or no? Finally, when its ready to be glazed what color pattern and color usage do you imagine me using for this piece?

This piece is unfortunately at school in the studio and I did not take a picture of it. Anyway, I worked on this on Thursday in class. The bottom part of this piece is a coil piece I worked on, there is a hook in the middle of the clay piece. I am going to spray paint the coil piece white and the hook is gold. Ms. Fligel and I had talked about putting a cup on top of this piece. I made a cup that is pink watercolor and has images in black and white on it but I am not sure it fits with this piece. If I put it with this piece I would put it on top the coil piece and make it sit sideways and slanted. No matter if I put the cup on or not, I imagine hanging something or multiple things off of the hook in the center. I want the things hanging to have meaning and be busy. The viewers eye needs to be drawn to the things hanging off the hook. I am having trouble with a few things in this piece. One, I feel like the way the coil piece dried is giving it a weird texture and when it is spray painted I am afraid it is going to look messy. (For reference, the coil piece dried with nothing on it so it dried on its own and you can see the marks from me using the rib and from me blending with my fingers). Any suggestions on how to make the pattern of the coil piece look more natural? Lastly, I have a few ideas of what to hang off of the hook but I don't love them enough to do it yet, any ideas on what to hang or something that may work well with the hook?
