Objective: Students will be able to explain how gravity works (a force that pushes/pulls us towards the Earth)

5-PS2-1. Support an argument that the gravitational force exerted by Earth on objects is directed down.

Tool: Perplexity (cost: free)

"Perplexity is another generative AI chatbot that lets users ask questions and get responses conversationally. What seems to set Perplexity apart is that it cites sources, which are easily clickable to get more context and more information."

AI Uses: Students will be able to use Perplexity to ask questions while learning. This tool will respond with answers and provide a link to verify the information. It is great for students to expand their knowledge and give them a base for further research. (sort of like a modern Wikipedia but with AI-based information).

This tool will can generate age appropriate questions and be able to help explain any questions needed if they arise. There is also a quiz mode to test their knowledge so they fully understand the concept and can give the teacher feedback. This can also be seen as a formative assessment. This allows students to grasp the concept and make learning fun and interactive.
Learning about plants then creating a paragraph with three components

https://www.theachievery.com/en/content/unit/plant-uses

Kaitlyn Acord

Subject: English/Science

Objective: By the end of the lesson students will have learned about many different ways that plants are useful in everyday lives as well as be able to create a written paragraph which will be completed with a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence.

Grade: 2nd

How: I would introduce the assignment and how we will watch the video as a class. Once the video prompts it, I will pause the video allowing the student's feedback on the variety of plants they are aware of. I would have them talk with a partner thinking about a plant they would like to write about. I would modify the lesson, having them to think about four details so the workload is equitably split between the students. I might print out pictures of plants locally grown and some that maybe encountered internationally then attach them to the board, adding any other plants that students can think of. We would review as a whole group what the three expected elements that are expected for the upcoming sentence. I might have them work on a small white board, paper, or even an iPad taking turns writing the components. One person would write the first two details and introduction sentence while their partner would complete the conclusion sentence and the last two details. I would monitor the process of each group by walking around and answering any questions. After all paragraphs are written, we would take turns reading them out loud for a candy reward.

What is learned/practiced in the lesson: Practicing using receptive skills to extract information out of a video, learning about the local and international environment, practicing Social Emotional skills by working in tandem with another peer, reading and writing skills, public speaking skills, and finally critical/creative thinking skills.

AI Tool: This is just one lesson that is on the website The Achievery which is a free engaging tool for all different levels K-12. It has engaging videos with corresponding activities for all core subjects.
