After Reading

After reading this book I felt much more black empathy for black people and all they have to go through. I was able to put myself in their shoes and realize how corrupt the experience is of the average black person with government. I also realized how black people are kept at ridiculous standards in school and in life. If a black person is perfect but has one slip up that person will be frowned upon and written off as "another crazy black person". I realized how important it is that everyone get along not based on skin color, gender, sexuality or anything else just a persons personality.

Bri from "On the Come Up" and Starr from "The Hate U Give" share many similarities and differences. One similarity they share is they were both scared at first to use their voices. In "On the Come Up" Bri was scared to show the video of her being assaulted by security at her school. She was scared because she didn't want people to look at her as the girl who got assaulted by security. In "The Hate U Give" Starr was scared to come out as the girl who was in the car with Kalil when he was killed. Starr was also scared to on the TV interview because she was scared of what the kids at her private school would think. One difference between Starr and Bri is money. In "On the Come Up" Bri's family struggles to have enough money for food. Especially since Jay had just lost her job. In "The Hate U Give" Starr's family is much better off money wise being able able to send Starr to a very expensive private school.
