The simile is," How it clatters along the roofs, like the tramp of hoofs!" This simile compares the hoofs to a group of walking animals. One of our context clues are when it has the "s" in the "hoof," so that already tells you it's going to be more than one. The meaning is a group of something or an type of animal walking when they step.

The two the poet is comparing in the simile, is an elephant, and a elephant's snout.
The first simile is " how it clatters along the roofs, like the tramp of hoofs" This simile is comparing the heavy rain, like an elephant's stomping. The context clues that helped me find the meaning of the simile is "...like the tramp of hoofs". This shows me that the meaning of the simile is that, heavy rain is like elephant's stomping.
The last simile is : How is gushes and struggles out, from the throat of the overflowing spout!" The simile is comparing the water, as a elephant shooting out water from its snout. The context clues that helped me find out the meaning is " .. the thoat of the overflowing spout!" this shows me that the meaning of the simile is that , the water is shooting like an elephant shooing water.
