Also the society was very open and didn’t specifically discriminate muslims.
Then when 911 occured the
country and sociely changed. People started to become more patriotic, scared and a mistrust against certain groups started forming. Even politics changed a lot. The government  declared war on terror  and sent troops to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Also the security was enhanced and not anybody could enter the US, especially not muslims.
But there were many people who were against sending troops to the middle east since they didn't want more death to occur.
