The French and Indian War (1754-1763)

It was a conflict between Britain and France. They fought for territory in North America. Britain won this war. Britain gained control over Canada & much of the eastern North America. The French and Indian War ended with the Treaty of Paris.

The Boston Tea Party (1773)

It was an act of protest of the British Parliament's Tea Act of 1773. A group of colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians board three British tea ships and dump 342 chests of tea into the harbor.This is an example of taxation without representation.It also had an big impact eventually leading to the start of the American Revolution.

It was a Philadelphia meeting that brought together representatives from each of the colonies. Delegates from 9 colonies gathered in Philadelphia and had concerns against Britain. As a result there was a boycott against British goods. This was important because it discussed their response to the British "Intolerable Acts".

The Declaration of Independence declared the American colonies independence. This was important because the colonists thought that Parliament wanted to take away their freedom. It was a resolution created by the Continental Congress. It broke all ties between colonists and the British, creating the idea in America that the colonies were now "states". The document stated the separation of the 13 American colonies from Great Britain.

Shays' Rebellion(1786-1787)

This was important because Massachusetts' farmers protested for high taxes. The Articles of Confederation are weak. There was a need for a stronger central government.
There was an uprising of rural, indebted farmers in western Massachusetts, against Boston creditors. It began in 1786 and lasted half a year. It threatened the economic interests of the business elite and contributed to the demise of the Articles of Confederation.

The Constitutional Convention(1787)

This was important because delegates from 12 states met in Philadelphia. The US Constitution was also written. This was basically a Philadelphia meeting that brought together representatives from each of the colonies, except Georgia. They discussed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.

George Washington's Farewell Address(1796)

He basically stated that the colonies should avoid the political parties, and also to be cautious with alliances, and also to stay united as a nation. This was also printed in newspapers.
