"One must have a good memory to be able to keep the promises one makes." This quote refers to the time where Rex tells his children about the big project which is the glass castle, but he never really builds it. For Jeannette's whole childhood she thought that the Glass Castle will be created but she figures out it wasn't going to happen when the hole they dig for the Glass Castle is filled with trash. This photo represents how the promise was broken when Rex promises his children all these years that he'll build the Glass Castle and it ends up being a big lie.

"Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them." Jeannette forgives her father for the time where he dropped her in the pool and she nearly drowned but she ends up forgiving him because she believes that he was trying to get her to learn. The image shows Jeannette and her father when her father lets go of her but instead of getting angry at him for almost killing Jeannette she ends up forgiving him because she knew his ways of teaching.

“If there is anything the nonconformist hates worse than a conformist, it’s another nonconformist who doesn’t conform to the prevailing standard of nonconformity.” This quote relates to the scene where Brian cracks his head, but his dad didn't want to take him to a hospital so instead he wrapped his head in a dirty white bandage. The images shows how Rex decides to use his own ways instead of going to the hospital like a normal citizen would do.

“Rocky, if I’ve learned anything from my train wreck of a marriage, it’s that no one can take care of me better than I can.” Self sufficiency is throughout the whole story, the Walls' children have been taking care of themselves most of the time since their parents are really unfit. For example, when Jeannette was 3 she was able to cook hotdogs by herself without anyone helping her. Since the Walls' household barely had any food, Jeannette had to dumpster dive at school for food because her family did not have enough money to buy her lunch. The images explains how Jeannette decides to use her own ways instead of always asking for help she fends for herself.
