As we plan for the potential of future LGBTQ+ specific funding, what is the number one priority in supporting LGBTQ+ students?

The Student Equity & Achievement Plan, SEA, is focused on delivering race conscious student support services. The CCC has the privilege of serving a racially/ethnically diverse student population. Please explain how your college does/will ensure that supports for LGBTQ+ students are also welcoming and affirming of those students’ racial and ethnic identities.

Staffing. Because the funding model is one where the funds are one time, our system is not really designed to permit us to hire someone. If we had consistent ongoing funds, then this would be something we could do.

in our 2024-25 plan we said: Creating a welcoming environment is one of our college's main focuses. As written in our SEA plan, we will continue towork on strategies that focus on inclusivity and support. We have also been working on increased safety. In ourdiscussions and responses from student surveys, our students continue to communicate the need for spaces where theyare welcomed and affirmed. Our hope is that we will work on carving out more spaces to increase the sense of belonging.

For the persistence metric of the Clovis Community College 2025-2028 SEA Plan, we specifically identify LGBTQIA2S+ students as a disproportionately impacted population. We have identified specific key strategies to work toward creating an environment designed for safety, belonging, and inclusion for our LGBTQIA2S+ students through increased professional development, increased communication to publicize CCC as an LGBTQIA2S+-affirming space, growth of engagement events, and continuing to remove barriers. Some of those barriers are related to mental health care, hygiene products, honoring lived names, and providing OER/low cost textbook options.

Staffing should continue to be one of our main priorities. While our processes aren't set up to use the funding for a long-term permanent hire, a 6-month temporary hire would allow us the opportunity to gather the data necessary advocate for a permanent position using institutional funds.

The Pride Center has been a great resource for our LGBTQIA2S+ campus community and we hope to see support grow. Along with staffing needs, perhaps consider:

Larger Space (Facilities)
Usage and Patronage of space has been on a steady increase and suggests considering access to larger space to further support growth would be ideal.
Expand Budgetary Allocations for Food/Snack Items (Funding)
Along the lines of increase in usage and patronage, allocating more funds to provide food support to students in PC would be ideal. (GSA Input)
