How will I use Pebble Go in my classroom:

I would classify Pebble Go as more of a primary age range learning tool. For a science activity, students will locate the Seasons subheading under Science, where four new categories will appear for Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter seasons. Each seasons tab includes information about affect on plants, animals, human impact, weather, etc., for students to gather and record information, extend their knowledge, and review what they already know. The corresponding lessons and activities could be completed either individually or in groups. For instance, there could be many extension activities with students choosing their favourite season and having them pair up with a classmate who has chosen the same season and then have a discussion. Afterwards, students can separate and find another classmate who chose a different season from theirs and then fill out a venn diagram comparing the 2 seasons. Thus, there are many possibilities as to activities and cross-curricular connections that can be incorporated.

(source: www.pebblego.com)

What is Genius Hour:
Genius Hour is a student-directed style of learning. Genius Hour provides students with opportunities to explore their personal passions and utilize their imaginations. Students begin by choosing a topic they are interested in and create a long-term, hands-on project around that topic with help from their teacher and even input from fellow peers.

How will I use Genius Hour in my classroom:
In the classroom, students choose what they want to study and how they want to study, while drawing on their personal strengths and interests. The end goal is for students to come up with a final product to teach and showcase to their peers in a way that is meaningful to them, where the teacher guides the student projects to ensure that they are on the right track. It is important for students to be taking part in lessons/activities that capture their interests, build upon their prior knowledge, and challenge them to think critically and creatively.

In my experience, students have had a lot of fun completing these projects and learned so much as well along the way. The enthusiasm and engagement is infectious as students are given the chance to talk about a hobby or interest that they are interested and/or knowledgeable in.

How does Genius Hour support inquiry based learning:
- When addressing the SAMR model, the Redefinition process aligns with Genius Hour, as the technology allows for the creation of a variety of tasks through a variety of methods.
- Students take part in inquiry based learning by learning more about what interests them. Genius Hour places emphasis on inquiry and research, innovation, and discovery and leads to new challenging opportunities for students to conquer.
- I would love to incorporate an inquiry based learning project such as Genius Hour into my classroom. It is also a great way to help us as educators to get to know our students better. This in turn will help us meet the needs of our students, which will aid in their learning experiences going forward.
