The United States Constitution is the foundation of America’s national government and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. This document was signed on September 17, 1787, by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, led by George Washington. It also explained the rough organization of the three branches (legislative, executive, judicial), how they would interact with the states and how the document could be amended. The Constitution consists of three parts:
- The Preamble tells the purpose of the document and Government.
- The Articles set up how the Government is organized and how the Constitution can be changed.
- The Amendments are changes to the Constitution. Since 1787, changes have been made to the United States 27 times by amendments. The first ten amendments are called the Bill of Rights.

The war was fought by the British and their colonies against the French and their colonies. It began with a dispute over control of a territory in the upper Ohio River valley, since the British and French territories were not well defined. The french built forts to try and strengthen their claim on the land. In 1754, British colonial forces , led by tLieutenant Colonel George Washington attempted to expel the French forces, but were outnumbered and defeated. It was followed by the unsuccessful capture of Fort Duquesne by the British forces led by General Edward Braddock in 1755, Braddock was killed.
However in 1757, the tides began to turn in favor of Great Britain, they defeated french forces in India and in 1759 they conquered Canada.
The war ended with the treaty of Paris in 1763 and Britain was victorious.
Under the treaty of paris, Britain got Canada and Florida from France and Spain

After the Seven year war, the british were in debt, so they decided to tax the American colonies. In 1767 the british parliament passed the Townshend Act which made it possible to tax objects that are imported into these colonies, but the colonies only accepted taxing for tea and nothing else. The british parliament then implemented the Tea Acts, which made it possible to import tea from India to the US colonies. If the could sell tea to the US colonies, they could implicitly tax the importation. But the colonies saw through it and decided to not take the imported tea.In 1773 a group of american colonists dressed as native americans boarded three ships, who were importing the tea and threw the tea overboard into the Boston Habor.

The Continental Army was formed by the Second Continental Congress after the outbreak of the American revolutionary war by the colonies that became the United States of America. Established by a resolution of the Congress on June 14, 1775, it was created to coordinate the military efforts of the Thirteenth colonies in their revolt against the rule of Great Britain. The Continental Army was supplemented by local militias and troops that remained under control of the individual states or were otherwise independent. General George Washington was the commander-in-chief of the army throughout the war.

Most of the Continental Army was disbanded in 1783 after the Treaty of Paris ended the war.

Contents

The American Revolution (1775-83) is also known as the American Revolutionary War and the U.S. War of Independence. The conflict arose from growing tensions between residents of Great Britain’s 13 North American colonies and the colonial government, which represented the British crown. Skirmishes between British troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord in April 1775 kicked off the armed conflict, and by the following summer, the rebels were waging a full-scale war for their independence. France entered the American Revolution on the side of the colonists in 1778, turning what had essentially been a civil war into an international conflict. After French assistance helped the Continental Army force the British surrender at Yorktown, Virginia, in 1781, the Americans had effectively won their independence, though fighting would not formally end until 1783.

The British Parliament wanted to get revenge on the americans for ruining their 342 boxes of tea in The Boston Tea Party, so they passed on a few Acts such as The Boston Port Act, where the Boston Harbor was closed to trade until the owners of the tea were compensated, Only food and firewood were allowed in. Town meetings were banned, and the authority of the royal governor was increased. Another one of these Acts was the Quebec Act, a law that recognize the roman catholic churches as the established church in Quebec. This made the american colonist mad because the tolerance of Catholics was viewed as a hostile act towards America, since it was predominantly Protestant. The colonist though that if this could happen to Massachusetts it could happen anywhere, so an intercolonial conference was called, the First Continental Congress was assembled.

The Battles of Lexington and Concord, fought on April 19, 1775, kicked off the American Revolutionary War (1775-83). Tensions had been building for many years between residents of the 13 American colonies and the British authorities, particularly in Massachusetts.
The colonists did not show great marksmanship that day. Nevertheless, they proved they could stand up to one of the most powerful armies in the world. News of the battle quickly spread, reaching London on May 28. By the following summer, a full-scale war of independence had broken out.
Many more battles followed, and in 1783 the colonists formally won their independence.
