"It's Hardly Noticeable" - John William Keedy. - Alice's Research

This project has particularly spiked my interest for our topic of identity, as throughout this series, "It's Hardly Noticeable," Keedy creates this story of a character who is struggling with a "an unspecified anxiety-based mental illness." Right through this series, he shows repetitive and compulsive behaviours e.g flossing, cleaning, note taking. This monotonous behaviour makes the viewer question normalcy in their lives, and identifies what is viewed as acceptable.

This series is described very well through this quote: (from the above link.)

"These images question the legitimacy of applying the term normal in a societal context by prompting a reconsideration of what, if anything, is normal, or at least what is perceived and labelled as such. Is it possible for a society to have a commonly held idea of what is normal, when few individuals in that society actually meet the criteria for normalcy?"

I really like this way of depicting anxiety as a mental illness, and his tight, precise framing really helps emphasise this.
