The students who are falling behind while taking the benchmarks will have specific support in print awareness. Environmental prints are signs children see when they are around their community or school. Environmental print helps understand the concept of connecting words and pictures to understand the meaning. </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Irregular words are words that contain one or more sound or spelling correspondence that a student doesn't know which means they can't "decode" the word.</p><p>There are two types of irregular words which are permanently and temporarily.</p><ul><li><p>Permanently</p><ul><li><p>Words that have one or more sounds or spelling that are rule-breakers and not pronounced (said or two)</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Temporarily  </p><ul><li><p>It will start off irregular because a certain sound hasn't been learned yet (why or for)</p></li></ul></li></ul><p>High-frequency word </p><ul><li><p>100 words that account for almost 50% of words that are used in text</p></li></ul><p>Guidelines for Teaching Irregular Words</p><ul><li><p>introduce high-frequency words before low-frequency </p></li><li><p>Do not introduce too many words at once</p></li><li><p>introduce new words before they appear in the text</p></li><li><p>review taught words daily </p></li><li><p>Provide opportunities for students to use the words</p></li></ul><p>I learned about heart words. The phoneme part in a word that is irregular is represented with a heart to let us know that part of the word has to be "read by heart". It is important because they want their students to understand some words are decodable.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
