France:Georges Clemenceau has already seen his country invaded twice by the germans in 1870 and 1914,he was determined not to let it happen again. Clemenceau wanted Germany to be broken up into a collection of smaller states although he was aware that Lloyd George and Wilson wouldn't agree to this term, so he demanded a treaty that would weaken Germany as much as possible

France had suffered massive damage during WWI, with over a million deaths and many wounded. Because of this, the people of France wanted to punish Germany for their actions. They wanted Germany to be split into multiple smaller states.

france's goal: to ensure that Germany would not be able to wage war and threaten france's security and peace. The reason they were concerned about Germany was because they had been invaded twice by germany.Adding on to that, if Germany were to wage war on France in the future germany would have the advantage due to two factors:

-a younger and larger population. This meant Germany would have more soldiers and manpower if they were to fight in the future compared to France

-easier time recovering the industrial economy as german territories were not very damaged during the war. This meant theyd recover faster and get a head start over france

additionally Clemenceau wanted Germany to be broken up into smaller states .This would make it harder for the smaller states to gain power and control, due to small land and manpower size,to attack France again, ensuring France had a lower chance of being invaded by Germany again. However Clemenceau was aware that the leaders of the two other countries of the big three(Britain:lloyd George and USA:wilson) would not agree. However he knew he'd be denied and instead suggested a treaty to weaken germany as much as possible because he had to show the public that he was aware and cared about the public's opinion.

Britain : Wanted to maintain the British empire and rebuild Britain's economic empire while protecting themselves.
To ensure something like WW1 won't ever happen again and to bring world peace.
