With a robust architecture, severe and austere abbey reflects the canonical model of Cistercian monasteries (along with Poblet and Vallbona).
Santes Creus was founded in 1160. Peter the Great and the kings Jaume II el Just and his wife Blanca d'Anjou were patrons of the monastery and chose to be buried here in two Gothic tombs beside the altar.
