Zurara wrote the story of Prince Henry's slave trading. Zurara claimed the slaves to be "savages" and that Europeans enslaved people for the purpose of "saving their wretched souls". Zurara was the first person to write about and defend Black humanity ownership and this document led to the idea of racist ideas.

They were a Christian denomination that lives in Germantown, PA. They were from German and Dutch descent. During the 16th and 17th centuries, orthodox authorities were killing them for their religious beliefs. They created an anti Slavery petition on April 18, 1688 denouncing oppression due to skin color- comparing it to oppression due to religion. This was the first piece of writing that was anti racist. After the petition, the Mennonites were shut down because the slave holders did not like when slavery was talked about as wrong

Thomas Jefferson may have been viewed as an anti racist becuase of his black ‘friends’ and his anti racist ideas in the Declaration of Independence. However, he was full of contradictions. He did not get rid of his slaves as he viewed them as an economic benefit. HE stressed his slaves very badly and even forced them to have kids with each other to keep up with his labour demand. The DOI also played a role in starting the Revolutionary War however Jefferson fled from something he started. Even though he was not in the country he insisted on keeping his slaves, further illustrating the fact he was also racist.

Over time, however as the racial issues in the U.S evolved and got worse. Du Bois changed his views to a more anti-racist approach, showing how people’s views can change along with the circumstances.

Racists tried to tear Obama down, but he fought strong and was elected the 44th president. He was able to prove the people wrong who believed that a Black president was impossible. He was a symbol for hope and change for this country and for the black people within it.

She was America’s most famous Black American woman academic. She did many things to strive for an antiracist America like fight for justice for many prisoners and fight for many black women who no one else wanted to defend. Her efforts resulted in her herself being imprisoned. Later in her career she turned her focus towards how to change how prisons function. She was arguably the most anti racist person in America over the last 20 years or so.

Malcom X had a very different approach to solving the racist issues in America. Unlike MLK, he felt that you should fight back in a violent way if necessary. He believed that self defense was needed and that it was a crime to not defend yourself. He was also one who spoke the truth. He was upfront and honest with his crowd with telling him that things were bad. His actions though did also result in him being assassinated.
