Similarly, actions can be represented as having a domino effect. In this case, negative actions come back, through momentum of the falling blocks, to crush the person who tipped the first block. Macbeth gets caught up in the momentum of his first kill, and proceeds to murder more. However, in trying to protect his newfound position on the throne, he provokes his closest men to rebel against him.

In Relation to Justin Timberlake

JT's song "What Goes Around" serves as a perfect metaphor (albeit less violent) to the karma that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth experience in the play. In Justin's situation, he is heartbroken by a girl that came into his life and engaged in a romantic relationship with him. He tried his best to treat her right and genuinely loved her, but the girl felt unsatisfied for whatever reason, wanting more, and left him for another man. However, Justin can console in the fact that this girl will have to face the consequences of rejecting his genuine love in the search for a flashier but uncommitted and shallow new man-
"Is this the way it's really going down?
Is this how we say goodbye?
Should've known better when you came around
That you were going to make me cry
Now it's breaking my heart to watch you run around
'Cause I know that you're living a lie
That's okay baby 'cause in time you will find

What goes around, goes around, goes around
Comes all the way back around"

True enough, Justin finds out how horrible her new boyfriend treats her, but doesn't feel sympathetic to her plight because she had treated him like that. JT relishes in the fact that she got a taste of her own medicine, finally-

"You spend your nights alone
And he never comes home
And every time you call him
All you get's a busy tone
I heard you found out
That he's doing to you
What you did to me
Ain't that the way it goes

When you cheated girl
My heart bleeded girl
So it goes without saying that you left me feeling hurt
Just a classic case
A scenario
Tale as old as time
Girl you got what you deserved"

In accordance with the same concept, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth killed Duncan because they thought it would make them happier, being king and queen. But after the murder is carried out, both are haunted by their actions, with Lady Macbeth slowly turning insane from guilt and Macbeth becoming desensitized and paranoid. The inner demons they face (rather than a terrible new boyfriend) are the ramifications they must deal with for killing the king. and in the end, they both end up dead from it (in the music video for the JT song, the girl dies in a car crash, which is a little extreme when it comes to backlash from relationship problems, but still).

I think this is one of the more easily understandable Shakespeare quotes- everyone is aware that it parallels the idea of karma. This was one of those wise lessons that Shakespeare snuck into his literature- he entertained the audience with a spectacular and visual play, but they needed to walk away with a lasting message. In this case, Macbeth sealed his own fate early on by killing Duncan (although one could argue the extent to which Lady Macbeth and the witches encouraged him to act upon his desires), and the rest of the play revealed the consequences, both internal and external, of his decisions.
I was surprised by how much I liked the play, even though his language always frustrated me. But I particularity liked the idea that this quote, although dealing with karma, also discusses the idea of teaching ideas to others and how that comes back around-committing violent crimes only convinces others that committing violence is right, but the violence of those "students" will come back to haunt the "teachers", or those who set the example. So I think now thatthe quote, upon further reflection, is also about being a good role model for others, and to teach them the just way to handle things.

Macbeth's quote covers the negative side of how one's actions impact themselves and others. However, the other side of the coin represents the positive effects of actions- which can be embodied by the Golden Rule. If one should fear the "bloody instructions" to return to plague the inventor, then they should also promote the idea of treating others well in order to be treated well.
