This exercise consists of a very similar tapping pattern that is in the song.

It also consists of playing the same pattern on different strings.

Play with a 4/8 metronome at 200bpm

play for 1 bar, mute for 3 bars

The tapping part of this song is the right before where the song explodes in tension. Satriani plays the tapping lines so smoothly and really brings out the inspiring emotion of this part. When I play the line, at times it can sound rigid and not flow as cleanly. So it takes away the emotion that is meant to be brought out. This exercise will help me with smoothly playing notes and bring out the inspiring emotion.

Things to focus on:

Technique:

focusing on making the volume of each note the same

focusing on not touching other strings and limiting unwanted noise.

Rhythm:

this exercise can be used to practice internalizing the pulse

the metronome can play every beat on the first round and then after each repeat, there are fewer clicks

this is to practice whether I can stay in time after not hearing the metronome for a while
