Most people lived and worked in farms. Many towns grew because of factories. Factories were large buildings which contained machines.
The conditions of factory workers were bad: they worked thirteen hours a day. The children or the young boys had to do dirty and dangerous jobs. In the second  half of the 19th and 20th century telegraph and the telephone were invented together with many other facilities . -Good morning,I live in London.
-How long have you lived in London?
- I've  lived there since I was a child , but  I was born in  Porthsmouth.
-What are the conditions of working children?
-The conditions aren't good at all. Children often start to work very young, their workplace is dangerous, they do repetitive jobs and earn very little money.
- What are the reasons why the families send their children to work in these conditions?
-The reason is the big poverty. Families have to survive and don't have  any  alternative.
- Can you do something to help these people?
- In my books I'm trying to talk about the terrible conditions of working children so that everybody can  know about the problem. My last book has been a great success and I'm about to publish a book about this problem again.
- I hope the situation will improve soon.
