I am struggling with trying to find a gap within knowledge. I think I have a good research question but I am unsure how ethical it could be. It is on the line of ethical but I think it could pass. I have some sources on EBSCO and looked up on google just to see the sources it gives with .org, .edu and .gov. I also use Mayo clinic and schools as sources.

I am struggling with finding sources that directly help me form my question, supports what I want my question to be and/or what questions I need answers too. It seems like I have found a gap in knowledge so I am happy with that but now finding the sources for my current question is a struggle. I overcame this by searching only keywords and making sure it is no more than 3 words.

The most helpful peer feedback was that the wording on my question was confusing and that I should define historical trauma which I think I will define as systemic racism. This was helpful because just putting historic trauma made it broad and the reader could think of many different things so I should be more specific.

My research question has changed after one of my peer commented how was I going to measure the extent. It changed into more of a compare and contrast rather than trying to find a cause/reason.

Ethical research practices are essential because they ensure the safety of the participants. It is also important because people shouldn't get tested on something without their consent or knowledge.

Week 9-10

Good instructions are detailed and thorough. Ones that are able to understand and clear enough to show which parts to attach or anything like that. This project made me reflect and really think about how clear my instructions need to be for others to replicate the interview. It has to be detailed.

The gap in the BOK is connecting Henrietta Lacks to pre and postnatal care. I have tried to look for sources that answer my question but are currently none which shows where the gap is. I think it needs to be address to show the racial disparities in Henrietta's story and how it can affect one's POV of pre and post natal care.

If a major change were to happen I would try to expand my research question by taking off the "central NC" to try and make it slightly broad. I will still try to continue with my original plan yet the question might be a little more broad or have to make a different plan with the same question. For example I might have to only use the questionnaire and not do interviews.

My method aligns with my purpose because it has to be able to compare the results and due to it filling in the gap in the BOK to answer it the ethical and most effective method is survey. I did not truly think of other methods.

I would try to make it on a larger scale. I would try to include other counties or most of North Carolina to draw more attention to my research question and get more opinions to weigh in. The more people the better so I can better analyze the results.

I am almost done collecting data and I plan to be done by Valentine's Day. I plan to visit my last daycare and see if any of the parents would like to sit down for an interview. I will most likely will use bar graphs and pie charts. I am not completely sure but those are most likely.

I would like to extend the amount of daycares I put flyers in to try and recruit more parents. I would try to double or even triple the amount so my sample population will be larger. The more people the better because it could represent North Carolina as a whole.

I am not completely sure how I would use statistical analysis at the moment because I do not understand what the purpose of it is for.
The video was helpful because it used the example of a simple T-test which is the same one I received after the Google Form. I still don't completely understand how to use it but I now understand the purpose and that it is used to measure the difference in two groups based off environment/social aspects.

Something that made the results section easier to understand was explaining the graphs/charts before they uploaded them. It makes it easier to connect the explanation to the data and my brain quickly draws a connection. They also did the average of what they are researching which is something that I might do with my research.

One challenge that I encountered when I was collecting research is the timing. I started my research mid-December but because it has to do with mothers and daycares and Christmas were coming up the daycares closed. Due to this I had a few weeks where no responses were coming in then we had winter storms back-to-back, so it made it a lot harder to go out and interview mother because the daycares were closed. Overall, I lost around 2-3 weeks due to the weather or holidays. I overcame this by expanding my research time and pushing back the end date.

My fundamental idea in my research is Henrietta Lacks and it led to comparison of race between women. Then, I thought about women's health which I am passionate about so I combined that with Henrietta Lacks' story. Overall, it led me to asking how does Henrietta Lacks affect pre/post natal medical care between Black and White women.

An unanticipated turn in my research is the weather. The daycares were closed and I was unable to leave the house, so my collection slowed down during this time. I had to change my deadline and push to get as many responses as I could.

I met with Mr. Peters and we went over my essay. We talked about what sections need more work and if I have sufficient evidence to justify my research. I have to go back & be more concise with my writing while keeping important details.

My results could show the community of my research how important Henrietta Lacks when referring to race and the medical field. Some consequences of my findings could be more studies that focuses on Henrietta Lacks' affect in different aspects like race. gender, the medical field and more. Overall, could led to more research regarding the mistreatment of minorities within the medical field.

The peer reviewed showed me that I need to be more clear with my writing and revise my grammar. I plan to go back through my entire paper and try to be as concise as I can while making sure my grammar is correct. I will also justify my method and other sections to reach higher points.

To prepare for my presentation I reread my paper and wrote notes of key ideas that were important to include in my presentation afterwards I added the details and make it look appealing. Some feedback I received when practicing is to slow down, verbally give credibility, my slides were to crowded with words. I fixed these and it made my presentation better and easy to understand while getting my point across.
