Q: How were medical conditions in the camps?
A: Disease was rampant in the camp. The majority of the prisoners had malaria or dysentery or both, and medical care virtually hopeless.
Q: What about nutrition?
A: Dietary deficiencies such as beriberi, scurvy, and pellagra soon began to appear, causing acute discomfort, pain and numerous deaths.

People were not given suitable medical care, which is a clear violation of the prisoner of war laws. This was not because Japan couldn't afford these accommodations, it is because they were brutal dictators who did not care about the wellbeing of their prisoners.

Q: What were the living conditions like in the camp?
A: The camp was really overcrowded and dirty. We were beaten and if we tried to escape we were killed. We were forced to be out in the sun without water.
Q. What did you eat in the camp?
A: Mostly rice. We also sometimes had fish and juice and beans although not as often.

- 75,000 POWs were captured by the Japanese. They were forced to march 85 miles in 6 days to a prison camp.
- They only had one meal the entire 6 days and there was very little water.
- Around 2,500 Filipinos died, and 500 Americans. Most died of starvation or exhaustion, but some were shot, beaten to death, or buried alive.
- Overall very tragic and showed how Japanese did not oblige to laws of war.
