She finds it tough to organize her thoughts and make her work look neat. She struggles to write letters clearly, which makes her handwriting messy. Using a notebook helps her space out her writing to keep it tidy, but it doesn’t always work well. Her jumbled letters and misaligned writing might mean she has trouble understanding language in a visual way, making spelling and sentence structure harder for her. Sometimes, she doesn’t finish her classwork because she feels frustrated or tired from these challenges, which slows her down.

Strength: She has speaking skills and is good at English.

BACKGROUND:

Class: VI — F

Age: 11 yrs

Gender: Boy

HISTORY OF LEARNING DISABILITY:

No certification till now because parents are reluctant in pursuing a certification.

He exhibits typical and appropriate social behavior in the classroom setting, interacting comfortably with both his colleagues and friends. His demeanor and conduct reflect a sense of ease and cooperation indicating he feels at ease with his peers and is capable of maintain good social relationship.

STRENGTHS (ACADEMIC SKILLS, SPEECH, WRITING ETC.):

He shows an interest in participating in sports and with the right motivation and encouragement, would likely engage enthusiastically. This suggests he has the potential to enjoy and benefit from sports activities, given the opportunity and support.

NEEDS:

Emotional support from his classmates will foster a positive and inclusive environment. This support helps him feel valued and understood, contributing to his overall well being and encouraging him to engage more actively in class activities.

Regular guidance on writing

His phonics and spellings understanding is very low. He is unable to write a complete sentence. Certification will help him to avail the facilities in examinations by CBSE

LIKES:

Playing with friends.

DISLIKES:

Writing

Getting pointed out by teachers/students

LANGUAGE LEVEL:

Reading: Struggles in breaking down of words and sentences and reading them aloud smoothly.

Writing: ambiguous signs and symbols, difficulty in organization of letters, words, sentences and paragraphs. This makes writing and understanding complex text a bit harder.

Comprehension: problem in comprehending complex things especially when there are multiple ideas or layers involved

Thought: problem in formulation and expression whether in writing or speaking. This acts as hinderance to articulate his thoughts more clearly.

MATHEMATICAL AND LOGICAL SKILLS:

Needs support with understanding problems/reasoning Issues in writing the numbers in organized form

STRATEGIES THAT WORK:

Collaborative learning

Peer learning

Buddy system

Experiential learning

Tactile learning

Audio-visual

One-to-one guidance

STRATEGIES THAT DON'T WORK:

Dictation

Lecture method/ Teacher-centered instruction / Direct instruction

Self – directed learning

IMPORTANT RELEVANT INFORMATION:

The highlights of concern are the child's phonics and writing skills development with parental support. As the child progresses to higher classes, the content they encounter becomes increasingly complex, which may exacerbate existing difficulties.

In the early stages of education, children often learn foundational skills in phonics and writing through simple texts and activities. However, as they advance, the curriculum introduces more sophisticated vocabulary, varied sentence structures, and intricate concepts. This progression requires not only an understanding of phonics and spelling but also the ability to analyze, synthesize and articulate ideas effectively.

For a child like Sarwatman who struggles with phonics and writing, these increasing demands can lead to frustration and anxiety. He may find it challenging to keep up with their peers, leading to a lack of confidence and motivation. If the foundational skills are not adequately developed during this time, he may experience a snowball effect, where difficulties compound over time, making it harder for him to succeed academically.

Thus, parental support is crucial, it is equally important to ensure that he receives targeted intervention and resources that can help bridge the gap in his skills. This might include specialized tutoring, structured phonics programs, and writing exercises that cater to his specific needs, enabling him to cope better with the complexities of higher-level content.

Sofia Arfeen

Class Teacher - Class VI F - 2024-2025

.......................................................................................................................

Sarwatman Singh Chandail

Background

Class – VI F

Age 11 years

Gender – Boy

History of learning disability.

No certification till now. It is essential to provide an environment that encourages self-expression and builds confidence. It is important for them to help him practice writing regularly at home. While he responds positively and smiles when praised, there has been no noticeable improvement in his reading and writing skills. Consistent practice and encouragement are needed to support his development.

Jyoti Kumari

Subject Teacher (2022-24)

.......................................................................................................................

Sarwatman Singh Chandail

Class: 6-F

Age:11 yrs

Gender: Boy

Learning disability: He is difficulty in comprehension and understanding.

Background Information

Saiaa Srivastava is currently studying in Class IX-D. While Saiaa has not been formally diagnosed with a learning disability, there have been clear signs of academic challenges since she was younger.

Strengths and Interests

Saiaa possesses notable strengths that, if cultivated, could enhance both her academic and social engagement:

Ø Oral Communication: When encouraged, Saiaa actively enjoys participating in public speaking and storytelling, where she excels in expressing her thoughts verbally.

Ø Creative Expression: Saiaa has a vivid imagination, often engaging with dance, music, and storytelling. These activities help her find joy and creativity outside of traditional academics.

Ø Strong Family Bonds: Saiaa enjoys family outings, particularly when she gets to dress up and spend quality time with her parents, indicating that her emotional foundation at home is supportive.

Emotional and Social Observations

Over time, Saiaa’s emotional challenges have become more noticeable. She is particularly sensitive to criticism and tends to withdraw when corrected in front of her peers. This sensitivity may also explain her recent bursts of anger and frustration towards classmates, which stem from feelings of inadequacy in the classroom.

Academic Profile and Challenges

Ø Reading and Comprehension: Saiaa’s reading abilities are below grade level. She often struggles to maintain reading fluency and faces difficulty in processing and interpreting complex texts.

Ø Writing:

Writing is a particularly challenging area for Saiaa. Her written work is often disorganized, with letters, words, and sentences poorly structured. This has led to frustration and avoidance of writing tasks altogether. She writes words not in correct order. She sometimes skips the pages while writing and changes the orientation of writing.

Social Preferences and Dislikes

Ø Interests and Likes: Saiaa has a natural inclination towards movement-based activities. Travelling with her family is another activity that brings her a sense of excitement and relaxation.

Ø Dislikes: Writing assignments cause her significant distress, as does being called out in class.

Learning Strategies and Approaches

Ø Certain strategies have been found to be effective in helping Saiaa navigate her academic environment:

Ø Experiential Learning: Saiaa responds well to practical, hands-on activities.

Ø Peer Support: Learning alongside classmates in small groups or through a buddy system provides her with emotional safety and reduces her anxiety about making mistakes.

Ø Visual Learning Tools: Audio-visual aids such as videos, infographics, and diagrams play an important role in helping her understand abstract concepts.

Family Dynamics and Home Support

At home, Saiaa’s mother is actively involved in helping her with schoolwork. However, with each passing year, as the academic content becomes more difficult, her mother finds it increasingly hard to support her effectively.

Additional Needs and Recommendations

Formal Assessment for Learning Disability: It is crucial that Saiaa undergoes a formal evaluation to confirm whether she has a learning disability.

Emotional Support System: Implementing a structured emotional support program, including regular check-ins with a school counselor and positive peer interactions, would help Saiaa build resilience and better cope with her frustrations.

Engagement in Extracurricular Activities: Given her love for creative expression, Saiaa could benefit from participating in extracurricular activities such as dance or drama, where she can channel her energy and creativity into positive outlets.

Conclusion

Saiaa Srivastava has the potential to excel, particularly in areas involving creative and oral expression.

SHATRUGHAN KUMAR SINGH

HINDI TEACHER, 9D (2024-25)

..........................................................................................................................................

CASE STUDY

Saiaa Srivastava

STRENGTH

·
