In academics, mentees displayed consistent improvement, with many actively engaging in self-study and completing assignments on time. Their participation in class discussions and group activities enhanced analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. However, balancing academic demands with co-curricular activities posed a significant challenge for some students. A lack of motivation in certain subjects and limited access to resources also impacted performance. To address this, mentees will be encouraged to follow personalized study timetables, engage in peer learning sessions, and use additional academic resources to bridge these gaps.

The program witnessed significant participation in sports and fitness activities, contributing to better team collaboration and overall health.

The mentees showed progress in managing emotions, largely supported by participation in mindfulness sessions like Sorig Zhiney. Group activities and reflective discussions further enabled them to express themselves and build resilience against stress. However, some mentees found it challenging to share emotional struggles openly, and peer conflicts occasionally hindered emotional well-being.

Mentees actively participated in cultural events, debates, and leadership roles, enhancing their confidence and social skills. Team collaboration in group projects and sports reflected a growing sense of camaraderie

Spiritual growth was fostered through activities like journaling, meditation, and reflective sessions. These practices improved self-awareness and focus for many mentees.

The Term-II mentoring program successfully supported mentees in their journey toward holistic development

Challenges

Lack of consistency in spiritual practices among some mentees.

A few mentees showed limited interest in reflective and spiritual activities.

Busy schedules often hindered time for spiritual growth.

Way Forward

Introduce daily journaling prompts and reflective questions to encourage regular practice.

Organize motivational talks and workshops on the importance of spiritual well-being

Encourage mentees to take up small leadership tasks within their comfort zones.

Thank You

Sangay Dorji (Warden)

Mentees for the academic year, 2024

Radhika Gurung 7A

Yewong Sangay Selden 8B

Kezang Thinley 8B

Anita Biswa 8B

Ugyen Thinley 9B

Sangay Tshering Moktan 10B

Sachan Darjee 11arts

Rema Subba 11 Sci

Suk Raj Rai 12 Sci

Mindu Dorji 12 Sci

Mentoring sessions during Term II began with a 5-10 minute Nyendro practice, establishing a serene and focused atmosphere. Individual roadmaps were discussed extensively, framed around the five areas of development: physical, social, emotional, cerebral, and spiritual. These discussions were particularly focused on raising progress and setting actionable goals.

The sessions were largely conversational, fostering an environment where mentees shared their feelings and concerns, especially regarding academics. Practical advice was provided to help them identify and overcome their weaknesses.

During the Reading Feast, mentees were encouraged to read books in both English and Dzongkha. Some mentees presented their readings aloud, while others shared stories, enhancing both their language skills and confidence.

The Mentoring Waste Challenge was a creative highlight. Our group presented:

1. A model illustrating earthquake sensations.

2. Crocheted flowers made from recycled plastic.

3. A chorten crafted from squeezed and reshaped paper.

These activities emphasized sustainability, teamwork, and innovation.

The term concluded with a simple lunch, which also served as a farewell gathering for our outgoing mentees, Suk Raj Rai and Mindu Dorji (both from XII Science).

Challenges

1. Punctuality:

Some mentees struggled with arriving on time for mentoring sessions.

2. Sharing Emotions and Concerns:

A few mentees found it difficult to open up about their feelings and challenges.

3. Writing Reflections:

Reflective writing was a consistent challenge, with mentees needing guidance and motivation to express their thoughts effectively. When ask to write reflection, few mentees summited similar or copied responses, reflecting a lack of original thought and effort.

4. Varied level of socialization:

While some mentees actively engaged in discussion, other remained quiet, rarely speaking or opening up during sessions.

5. Low academic performance:

Few mentees struggled academically, finding it challenging to meet expectations in their studies despite support and guidance.

Way Forward

1. Improving Punctuality:

Implementing gentle reminders and setting clear expectations to ensure mentees arrive on time.

2. Encouraging Open Communication:

Creating more ice-breaking activities to help mentees feel comfortable sharing emotions and concerns.

3. Enhancing ReflectiveWriting:

Introducing guided prompts and examples to support mentees and inspire original and thoughtful responses.

4. Active engagement strategies:

Incorporating varied interactive methods, such as group discussion, games, and role plays, to ensure active participation from all mentees.

5. Academic support

Providing focused guidance for low performing mentees by creating personalized study plans, offering peer tutoring, and conducting skill building s

essions for challenging subjects.

Thank you.

Sonam Lhamo

This year, I served as a co-mentor alongside Madam Dechen, and our mentoring sessions were successful. We were able to share and achieve several planned activities effectively. All the mentees were open and honest in expressing their emotions, creating a positive and trusting environment.

One of our mentees, Sonam Phuntsho, often displayed problematic behavior, which became an opportunity for us to learn valuable lessons about addressing challenges and finding constructive ways to move forward. During our sessions, we showed a video on study tips to guide the mentees in improving their academic skills. Additionally, we engaged them in a creative activity where they cooperated to make a "jama" from waste materials. This activity was not only enjoyable but also fostered teamwork and enhanced their practical skills.

Looking ahead, I am committed to building a stronger connection with my mentees, both personally and academically. My goal is to ensure open communication, active engagement, and meaningful guidance that will support their growth and development in all aspects of their lives.

The one-to-one interactions provided a safe and personalized space to understand their individual needs, challenges, and aspirations, which significantly strengthened the mentor-mentee bond. This connection laid the foundation for meaningful guidance and support.

Games and collaborative activities also played a pivotal role in the mentoring process. By engaging in team-oriented games, mentees not only learned the importance of cooperation and collaboration but also had a chance to relax and unwind from their daily routines. These activities contributed to a sense of community and mutual support within the group.

Additionally, mindfulness practices were incorporated into the sessions to encourage self-reflection and emotional awareness. Every mentee participated in mindfulness exercises, enabling them to explore various techniques and better understand their mental well-being. Such practices helped mentees develop focus and inner calm.

Another significant activity was the sharing of strengths and areas for improvement within the group. This practice fostered a culture of constructive feedback and self-awareness, allowing mentees to recognize their capabilities while understanding the perspectives of others.

An innovative activity involving nature exploration was particularly impactful. Mentees closed their eyes, touched a plant, identified it, and named where they might have encountered it before. This exercise heightened their awareness of the natural world and encouraged them to appreciate their surroundings more deeply.

Challenges:
Despite these successes, several challenges emerged during the mentoring sessions. Encouraging students to read both English and Dzongkha texts proved to be a persistent hurdle, as some mentees lacked confidence or struggled with the language. Similarly, motivating mentees to step forward as volunteers was challenging, indicating a need to nurture their sense of initiative and responsibility.

Another challenge was the limited focus on spiritual activities this year, which constrained opportunities for mentees to engage in practices that could foster a deeper sense of purpose and connection.

Way Forward:
To address these challenges and further enrich the mentoring program, several steps have been outlined for the future:

Promoting Volunteerism: To instill a sense of responsibility and community service, mentees will be actively involved in volunteer work. Planned activities such as cleaning campaigns or assisting in community events will help develop their sense of initiative and compassion.

Organizing a Spiritual Tour: A dedicated spiritual tour in 2025 will provide mentees with an opportunity to reflect on and explore their spiritual growth, strengthening their emotional and mental well-being.

Academic Engagement: To improve mentees' language skills and overall academic performance, efforts will be made to involve them in more academic activities, such as reading clubs, debates, and writing workshops.

The mentoring program was a dynamic and engaging journey focused on fostering personal growth, academic skills, and emotional well-being among mentees. Weekly speaking activities saw at least two mentees confidently address various topics, steadily improving their communication skills. Additionally, five mentees shared stories every term, creating opportunities to build creativity, cultural appreciation, and presentation abilities. Monthly quizzes and debates conducted in pairs encouraged teamwork and critical thinking, providing mentees with a platform to express their ideas.

To enhance cultural and linguistic awareness, mentees spent 10 minutes of each mentoring session learning different languages, which broadened their horizons and sparked interest in global diversity. They also explored the principles of healthy eating and shared their knowledge with friends, fostering a culture of mindful dietary choices. Traditional indigenous games were another area of focus, with mentees learning and playing these games every learning cycle, strengthening their connection to their heritage.

Mindfulness practices were woven into every mentoring session, with mentees meditating for 5–10 minutes to improve focus and reduce stress. Videos on mindful walking were introduced and practiced each learning cycle, cultivating a sense of awareness and inner peace. Weekly exercises on emotional regulation empowered mentees to explore different techniques for managing their emotions, which they shared with the group once a term. The value of kindness and polite communication was emphasized, with mentees practicing these virtues weekly to build a more respectful and compassionate environment.

Highlights of the year included a spiritual hike to Pang Serpo Lhakhang on 18th April 2024, which strengthened bonds and provided a moment of collective reflection. A mentee-led quiz featuring challenging riddles showcased their creativity and critical thinking, fostering intellectual development within the group. Book talks in English and Dzongkha enriched literary appreciation, while the standing in 7th position in the waste challenge competition underscored the power of teamwork, collaboration, and dedication.

Challenges:
Despite these successes, some mentees were initially hesitant to actively participate in discussions and debates due to a lack of confidence. Maintaining consistency in practicing emotional regulation techniques proved challenging for some, and balancing co-curricular activies with academic commitments occasionally led to time management issues. Interest in indigenous games varied among mentees, with a few struggling to engage fully.

Way Forward:
To address these challenges, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment through positive reinforcement and regular feedback will be a priority. Personalized approaches to emotional regulation and mindfulness will help mentees practice these techniques consistently. Time management workshops can equip mentees to balance their responsibilities more effectively. To boost interest in indigenous games, storytelling and competitions can make these activities more engaging. Building on the program’s achievements and addressing its challenges will ensure continued growth and success in the coming year.

                            Mentoring report 2024 term II

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for the exceptional dedication and commitment you’ve demonstrated as my mentee. Your eagerness to learn, grow, and actively participate in our mentoring journey has been truly inspiring. I have been impressed by your enthusiasm and the effort you consistently put forth. I am proud of the progress you’ve made and the person you are becoming. Your curiosity and willingness to take on new challenges will undoubtedly benefit you in both your academic and personal life. This year, the mentoring program at our school has been deeply involved in supporting a range of events and initiatives. In this report, we will highlight our participation in the Lhakhang Visit, handwashing awareness, the Cross-Pollination Test, and the Reading Festival.

Mentees expressed an increased appreciation for Bhutanese culture, particularly the importance of religion and spirituality in shaping the community's values and daily life. Many mentees expressed how the calm and peaceful environment of the Lhakhang had a positive impact on their state of mind. Some mentioned feeling a sense of clarity and focus after spending time in the sacred space. The visit also helped strengthen the bond among the group. After the visit, the mentees shared their thoughts and reflections, and it was clear that they were able to connect with each other on a deeper level, exchanging personal insights and experiences. Mentees expressed how the calm and peaceful environment of the Lhakhang had a positive impact on their state of mind.

During our mentoring session on handwashing, I guided the mentees through the importance of proper hand hygiene as a key practice for health and well-being. We discussed when and why handwashing is critical, especially in preventing the spread of germs and diseases, and reviewed the correct technique using soap and water, ensuring they understood each step—from scrubbing all surfaces of the hands to drying them properly. The mentees were actively engaged, asking questions about the science behind germs and how long-lasting good hygiene habits can be. By the end of the session, they were not only more knowledgeable about proper handwashing practices but also committed to incorporating it consistently into their daily routines, emphasizing how such small actions can make a big difference in overall health.

During our mentoring session on reading, I emphasized the importance of cultivating a reading habit as a tool for personal growth, learning, and critical thinking. We discussed the benefits of reading across various genres, from fiction to non-fiction, and how it can expand vocabulary, improve focus, and foster empathy. I encouraged the mentees to explore books that align with their interests while also challenging them to step out of their comfort zones by reading new topics. The session included a group discussion on the books they are currently reading, allowing them to share insights and recommendations. By the end of the session, the mentees expressed a renewed interest in reading regularly and were excited to create personal reading goals, understanding how it can enhance their academic and personal development.

Challenges

My main challenges were maintaining consistent engagement, particularly as some mentees struggled with balancing mentoring activities alongside their academic and extracurricular commitments. Finding ways to keep them motivated and focused, especially during more demanding periods, required creative strategies and flexible scheduling. Additionally, fostering open communication was sometimes challenging, as some mentees were initially hesitant to share their thoughts or struggles. Building trust and encouraging them to be more open about their challenges took time and patience. Another challenge was adapting to the diverse learning styles and personalities within the group, ensuring that each mentee received the support they needed while still fostering a sense of collective learning. Finally, with some activities, such as the Cross-Pollination Test, it was difficult to gauge their level of understanding and engagement until after the fact, which meant needing to adjust plans in real-time to ensure everyone was benefiting equally.

Way forward

To address challenges like mentees not being open, it's crucial for me to focus on building trust and creating a safe space for communication. Henceforth I will Start by establishing rapport through active listening, empathy, and sharing personal experiences to encourage openness. Setting clear expectations for the mentoring relationship and highlighting mutual goals can also help mentees feel more comfortable. I will encourage vulnerability by validating their ideas and fears without judgment, and use open-ended questions to draw them out. Regular check-ins and feedback loops ensure mentees feel heard and supported, gradually fostering their willingness to share and engage.

In conclusion, our mentoring journey this year has been a rewarding experience filled with growth, learning, and meaningful engagement. I am incredibly proud of the progress you've made, from embracing new challenges to demonstrating a strong commitment to personal and academic development. Each activity, whether it was the Lhakhang visit, handwashing campaign, Cross-Pollination Test, or the Reading Festival, has provided valuable opportunities for you to expand your knowledge, build essential life skills, and strengthen your sense of responsibility. As your mentor, it’s been a privilege to witness your growth, and I look forward to continuing this journey together, supporting you as you strive to reach your full potential.

mentor Partap Purna Mongar

Mentoring Report

This year, I focused on deepening my connection with my mentees by organizing individual sessions after school to understand their family backgrounds better. These sessions aimed to address the challenges faced during group mentoring sessions, where most mentees hesitated to open up. Additionally, I developed an informal mentoring workplan but recognized the need for a formalized approach, particularly focusing on emotional well-being. While we occasionally worked on academics, particularly Dzongkha spellings, I believe that academic success is deeply tied to emotional stability. Among all the mentoring efforts, the informal meal times at my house stood out as the most effective bonding opportunity, where mentees felt more comfortable expressing themselves, allowing us to build a stronger rapport.

However, the process was not without challenges. Some mentees displayed a lack of cooperation, indicating gaps in emotional bonding. Female mentees, in particular, were reluctant to share personal issues, which highlighted my shortcoming in becoming a trusted figure for them. Another notable challenge was the lack of fun activities within the mentoring sessions, which may have hindered engagement and enthusiasm.

Moving forward, I plan to address these issues by incorporating more engaging activities and refining my approach to foster trust and emotional connection, especially with the female mentees.

Mentoring report of term II 2024 My mentees of 2024 are Tenzin Kelzang Rigden(XI A), Anil Subba(XI SCI), Sonam Choden(XA), Dawa Tshering(VII A), Khandu Lham(XA), Leki Wangmo (VII A), Anjana Biswa(XII SCI), Phub Dem (VII B) and Sangay Nima(XB).

I focus on goal setting by discussing both short-term and long-term objectives and creating step-by-step plans to achieve them. Letting them to create road map.Study sessions can target challenging subjects like Dzongkha, math, and science teaching effective note-taking and revision techniques. Reading and comprehension skills can be enhanced by reading books together, discussing key ideas, and encouraging summarization. Additionally, provide guidance on completing assignments efficiently and offer constructive feedback to improve their academic performance. For personal development, encourage self-reflection journaling to help mentees track daily achievements, challenges, and thoughts, reviewing their progress regularly. Confidence-building exercises like public speaking on topics of interest and role-playing scenarios can improve communication skills. Life skills training can include teaching time management through daily schedules and engaging in problem-solving games to foster critical thinking. In social well-being, create a safe space for open dialogue sessions, allowing mentees to share their feelings and challenges without judgment. Incorporate gratitude practices by encouraging them to write three things they are thankful for each day, discussing how this nurtures a positive mindset. Stress-relief activities such as mindfulness exercises, drawing, or crafting can also help them manage emotional stress effectively. The mentees face challenges such as a lack of mindfulness, dependence on feedback, and procrastination. They often struggle to stay fully engaged in the present moment, prioritize tasks, or maintain focus during sessions. Additionally, they rely heavily on constant reminders and feedback, showing a lack of self-driven initiative. Procrastination and delayed task completion, possibly due to poor time management or low motivation, further hinder their progress. To address these issues, strategies can be implemented to encourage mindfulness, promote independence, and improve time management. Mindfulness exercises such as brief breathing practices can help them focus, while clearly outlining session goals ensures they understand the purpose of each activity. Reflective practices after tasks encourage deeper engagement with their learning process. Promoting independence involves assigning tasks in manageable chunks, reducing feedback frequency to foster self-assessment, and pairing mentees with accountability partners to track progress. Time management can be improved by helping them create daily schedules, breaking tasks into smaller parts with deadlines, and introducing a reward system to reinforce timely completion. Moving forward, sessions should begin with discussions on self-discipline and mindfulness, followed by activities like goal-setting and vision board creation to build intrinsic motivation. Regular progress monitoring, combined with reduced reminders, can encourage self-reliance, while celebrating small achievements builds confidence and positive habits. Consistency and patience are essential in fostering a growth mindset and helping mentees become more mindful, accountable, and efficient in their tasks.

Mentor: Tashi Lhamo (Lab Assistant)

Ratio: 6 boys, 3 Girls

Total Mentees: Nine (9)

List of Mentees.

1. Tshering Choden- VII B

2. Nidup Dorji- XII Arts

During Term-II, the mentoring program was designed with a dual focus: supporting academic excellence and fostering personal growth among mentees. The sessions prioritized identifying and addressing academic challenges, enhancing study techniques, and promoting effective time management to improve performance. Alongside academics, the program emphasized personal development by encouraging self-awareness, building confidence, and nurturing communication skills. Through a structured approach that combined guidance, goal-setting, and regular feedback, the mentoring sessions aimed to empower mentees to achieve their academic objectives while also growing holistically as individuals.

Activities during Term -II

1. Mindfulness practice

To help mentees relax and focus, each mentoring session began with a 5-minute mindfulness practice called "three deep breathing in and out" exercises. This practice aimed to calm the students' minds, reduce stress, and enhance their concentration during the sessions. Over time, this consistent mindfulness practice contributed to an improved ability among the mentees to manage their emotions, stay present, and approach both their academic work and personal challenges with a clearer mindset.

2. Mentoring Exhibition

As part of the waste challenge initiative, mentees actively participated by showcasing their innovative solutions to plastic waste management. The activity encouraged them to think creatively about repurposing discarded materials and highlighted the importance of sustainability. Through hands-on involvement, mentees explored practical applications of recycling and demonstrated their ability to address environmental issues. During the challenge, mentees created functional models and products using plastic waste, reflecting their ingenuity and problem-solving skills. These efforts not only emphasized environmental awareness but also fostered teamwork and creativity. The event served as an excellent platform for mentees to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges while promoting eco-friendly practices.

3. Engaged mentees in games activities

Mentees were actively engaged in group and team-based game activities during the one-hour session. These interactive exercises encouraged collaboration and fostered a sense of camaraderie among participants. By working together in a competitive yet supportive environment, mentees developed important interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. The session also provided an opportunity for mentees to interact with members of other teams, promoting inclusivity and broadening their social connections. These activities not only made the session enjoyable but also helped build a positive and dynamic group atmosphere, contributing to the overall growth and engagement of the mentees.

4. One to one mentoring session

One-to-one mentoring sessions provide a focused and personalized approach to address the unique needs and goals of each mentee. These sessions allow the mentor to understand the mentee's strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations in a more in-depth manner. By creating a safe and open environment, the mentee feels encouraged to share their challenges, whether academic, personal, or professional. This individualized attention helps in building trust and tailoring guidance to suit the mentee's specific circumstances, ensuring effective support and actionable advice. During these sessions, the mentor can offer targeted feedback, monitor progress, and help the mentee set realistic and achievable goals. The one-on-one format fosters meaningful conversations that are difficult to achieve in a group setting, enabling the mentee to ask questions, seek clarity, and express concerns freely. These sessions also provide an excellent opportunity to discuss long-term plans, identify potential obstacles, and develop strategies to overcome them. Overall, one-to-one mentoring sessions are a vital component of personal and professional growth, fostering a deeper connection between mentor and mentee while driving impactful results.

5. Roadmap

All of my mentees have uploaded their roadmaps covering five areas of development, each with progress bars. As a mentor, I've completed the review process. We've also designed a collective mentoring group roadmap and

implemented the corresponding action plans accordingly.

6. Organized discussions on academic challenges and strategies for improvement

During the term, I facilitated discussions aimed at identifying and addressing academic challenges faced by the mentees. These sessions provided a platform for mentees to share their struggles openly, fostering a collaborative environment where practical solutions were explored. Emphasis was placed on understanding individual difficulties, whether related to specific subjects, time management, or exam preparation. By addressing these areas, mentees gained clarity on how to approach their studies more effectively. In addition to identifying challenges, the discussions focused on developing actionable strategies for improvement. Techniques such as setting realistic goals, prioritizing tasks, and utilizing available resources were introduced and practiced. This proactive approach not only equipped mentees with tools to overcome academic hurdles but also instilled a sense of accountability and self-discipline, contributing to their overall academic growth.

Challenges Faced

1. Missed Deadlines for Submissions

Many mentees struggled with meeting deadlines for submissions such as reflections and seven gifts. To address this, I implemented a reminder system and provided additional support to help them manage their time better. Regular check-ins were introduced to track their progress and offer guidance on prioritizing tasks, which helped improve their adherence to deadlines.

2. Punctuality for Sessions

Some mentees occasionally failed to arrive on time for their mentoring sessions. To tackle this issue, I emphasized the importance of punctuality and discussed its impact on their learning and development. I also adjusted the session schedule to better accommodate their needs and provided reminders ahead of each session to reinforce the importance of being on time.

3. Writing Reflections

It has been particularly challenging to motivate mentees to write reflections. Despite consistent reminders and encouragement, many fail to complete this task. This hinders the mentoring process, as writing reflections are vital for self-assessment and tracking their progress.

Way forward

1. Encouraging open communication

Foster a supportive environment where mentees feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Regularly promote honest dialogue to build trust and strengthen the mentor-mentee relationship, ensuring better understanding and collaboration.

2. Improving punctuality

Introducing gentle reminders and establishing clear expectations to help ensure mentees are punctual for sessions.
