Carter won the election. Jimmy the Spider and Mr. Evan's would have been thrilled.

As you can see, Carter won in Georgia. This was in part due to the fact that he was a peanut farmer from Georgia, which made him a relatable figure for many Southerners. 

Mr. King is a supporter of Carter. It is support for Carter that helps readers see another side of him. His interest in Carter brings out his genuine concern for the U.S. and strong ethics: "Elections are supposed to be fair, and if they're not, then we're no better than any other country" (49).
