Mama is hopeful in the story A Raisin in the Sun. After Mama's husband passed the family received an insurance check, and Mama wanted to move to a new home  with her family. Clybourne Park is a neighborhood filled with white folks and no colored people. When Mama's kids inform her about the neighborhood being filled with only white people she simply does not care. Mama is the backbone of her family. She holds everyone together and tries to make the best out of the worst. Mama does as much as she can for everyone , like  buying a house, cleaning up after others, or making sure everyone is okay. Mama tends to the kids, cooks, and cleans.   Walter to Beneatha: “Who the hell told you you have to be a doctor? If you so crazy ‘bout messing ‘round with sick people—then go be a nurse like other women—or just get married and be quiet…” p. 38 
This quote explains the theme because Walter is being sexist towards Beneatha. He said something stereotypical to her. Just because she is a female doesn't mean she has to be a "nurse" or " just get married and be quiet".
