From the textbook "Healthy Foundations in the Early Childhood Setting" by Barbara Pimento, it states that children's body fats go up and down, and sometimes children do not eat one day but will eat a lot the next. This is a developmental norm in the preschoolers age, so do not worry if this is happening to you're child. When a child is hungry, their needs must be attended to, not left alone. If a child tells you that their hungry, perhaps you'd want to incorporate a healthy snack during the day. Even by giving the child an apple or other type of fruit. (Pimento, 2015)

Common Concerns for Preschoolers and Additional Tips + Pointers

Some Common Concerns for Preschoolers are, if you are introducing a new food item, this is great for preschoolers because they are so curious and interested about learning. So, by creating a positive learning environment, it will help the child be more interested in the food item. Children learn from cook books, advertisements and by manipulation from the caregiver. Also, when introducing a new food item, do no pressure the child. If a child does not want to try an item, that is okay. Time will come and the child might eventually try the item. If the child does get pressured then the child might never want to try the food again in their life. This makes the child more agitated and frustrated. If you want a child to feel more engaged, let the preschooler help set the table with you, put out all of the dishes on the table, and let the preschooler self-serve themselves. Even if the child is spilling everything on the table or floor, the child knows what is wrong and right, so the child would be able to help clean the mess after the meal. (Pimento, 2015)
