Many people wonder how and why I became the Handicapper General. Was I nominated by congress? Did I win an election? Or did I merely eliminate my competitors with a double barrel shotgun? None of that matters. What matters is I am in charge of enforcing the 211th, 212th and 213th amendments of the United States of America constitution. For years we fought for equality because we know it will make America great again. Gone are the days where we compete with each other to become better than our neighbors. The days of material-oriented goals are behind us. Believe me, this is the America you want. We will go to any lengths to ensure an equal America is viable. We will enforce any strength necessary. People whose intelligence are above average are a threat to the new amendments, which is why they must wear handicaps. This is not inhumane. I repeat, this is not inhumane. If you are a person with a handicap, you are still free - like any other American citizen. I simply can't afford for you to think anti-government thoughts. We must, as a nation, do whatever we can to avoid living in the dark ages once again.

Our citizens seem to be acclimated to our nation's new way of life. I will admit, the actions we have displayed may appear far too aggressive for the weak. However, for the true patriots of our great nation, they bear witness that our country has never been stronger. We are a nation where anyone can succeed-- thanks to no more advantages by any one individual. But that does not mean we have deterred every citizen! Why, why must they force us to be hard on them?! Harrison Bergeron? Let me tell you a thing or two about Harrison Bergeron. First of all, he is no hero. He is prone to violence. He does not believe we should all be equal. He would rather take advantage of his brute strength; his god-like appearance; his intelligence. He has been in our custody since a very young age, but do not let that fool you. At the age of 8, he was arrested under suspicion to overthrow the government. Although I am the Handicapper General, I am also a mother. I do sympathize with his parents, especially his mother whose name escapes me at the moment. I wish we never had to remove him from his parents' home, but from a young age we could determine he was a risk to national security. During his incarceration, he has shown no remorse, nor has he displayed any goals to better himself. Rather he still wants to destroy everything we have created.

As I sit here writing this, I have been informed Harrison Bergeron has escaped from custody and is now holding a television studio captive. Harrison Bergeron is the epitome of someone whose strength and intelligence is too advanced for their own good. Please, do not look up to this young boy as some folk hero. Let me repeat by saying he is a dangerous person not only to himself, but to you and yours as well. I will not allow this boy or ANY other citizen bring chaos to our nation. I will travel to the depths of hell to make sure he does not succeed in whatever he is planning next. He will not win. He can not win. We will travel to any lengths necessary to ensure he is not the catalyst to some trivial revolution. It makes me wonder why he would attempt to defeat us? Perhaps the handicaps were not a big enough deterrent for Bergeron. Or maybe it is because he has never seen what we are capable of, and I hope it never has to come to that. I do not want to make an example of Harrison, but to make sure a situation like this never occurs again, it may be in the nation's best interest for us to inflict any force necessary.
