The UK is estimated to use about 227,000 miles of wrapping paper each Christmas, enough to stretch nine times around the world, and some 1 billion Christmas cards (equivalent of 33 million trees). In the US, around 2 billion holiday cards are sent each year, enough to fill a football field with paper stacked ten stories high. Canada is estimated to use 540,000 tonnes of wrapping paper each festive season and to send 2.6 billion cards. With 1kg of paper generating 3.5kg of CO2 during production, the global carbon footprint of wrapping and cards is significant. The overall environmental impact will depend, of course, on how much of this material is recycled. The recycling rate for paper and cardboard for the UK and the US is 79% and 65%, respectively, so there is scope for further reducing the environmental footprint.

Manu food is wasted all over the world especially in Chritmas between 20 to 40% of the food is wasted.

People buy so much Christmas decorations, it would be a great idea to make our own decorations with stuff we have in our house, so we reduce the consume of plastic things like Christmas' ornaments or small decorations, plus its a cool Christmas activity to do in family.

A 2-meter Christmas tree generates the equivalent of 3.2 kilos of carbon dioxide in its life cycle. And although the little tree captures CO2 during its life cycle, that CO2 will go into the atmosphere if it is incinerated later and if it is buried, around 3 quarters of that carbon will remain in the soil for at least 100 years. On the other hand, the modeling of the life cycle takes into account the 5-kilometer journey that is made by car to fetch the tree. And those 5 kilometers count for 80% of its carbon footprint.

Another easy way to reduce waste over Christmas is to think about what you're using to wrap both presents and food. Swap traditional wrapping paper for recyclable brown paper or recycled fabric. Avoid clingfilm and put leftovers in a tin or cover with beeswax food wrap

Fireworks cause extensive air pollution in a short amount of time, leaving metal particles, dangerous toxins, harmful chemicals and smoke in the air for hours and days.
