Would it be possible for the SIAC committee to offer tours (at the next meeting?) of where the 5th graders would be in the middle school? As a parent whose child would be affected by this, I have never seen the middle school and am not familiar with the layout. I can look at a diagram all day long, but it would be nice to see/experience what they would if they were to move to the middle school.

While I do not have a child that this would effect my concerns are as follows. 1) when they decided to close Ainsworth last year it was clearly stated that there was plenty of room in Riverside to house these students but 6 months later they are over crowed? Who did the math on that and could not see that housing 5 specials in a small room wasn't going to work? Why do all the specials from Grantwood have to come down on the same day? 2) By moving the 5th graders out to the middle school will they be changing classes also? If so I think that is a big transition for those kids and they are to young. If you choose to not have those kids changing classes how are your going to keep them engaged and on task when you have grades 6-8 moving up and down the hall through out the day and making noise. Those kids in that room are going to be curious and not be paying attention to the tasks they have on hand.

They never said there was plenty of room in Riverside when Ainsworth closed. Mrs. O'Leary stated at the parent meeting they'd be using every inch of space but they would do their best to make it work. To me that means it was communicated that space was going to be tight.

Mrs Oleary may have stated that at the parent meeting however if you were at any of the school board meetings when they were discussing closing Ainsworth Mrs O'Leary and Mr Armstrong clearly informed the board that there was PLENTY of room in Riverside to house PK-5, all of the specials would be sharing a room. Were you at the board meetings because I was.

It was under the impression of the community that there was more than enough room in Riverside for all kids. I feel that the people in the district were mislead to believe this in order to close Ainsworth Elementary. I think that we aren't even a year from closing an elementary school and were talking about not having enough room in a elementary that was suppose to have plenty of room. I don't agree with moving the computer lab to the library and taking up more space at the middle school/high school library. Maybe we should have considered all the options earlier before we decided to close a perfectly good school.

I have a student in middle school who just asked, where would they put the 5th graders because we are already crowded in there. There is no space in the middle school for extra kids. Maybe someone should ask the kids, they are the ones who seem to be the most honest on the amount of space.

I'm sure its captured somewhere in the school board meeting minutes but i was unable to find it.
