Right now, my relationship with reading is pretty neutral since I haven’t read in a while. The reason for this is mostly because it hasn’t really interested me and also because I am not sure what to read. However, when I do find something to read that interests me I spend hours just reading nonstop. Sometimes I would even stay up late because I was so invested in what I was reading. I mostly only read books but sometimes I browse for articles about things I want to learn. I don’t really have a preferred genre of reading, but I would say I usually read fiction, and novels. Since I never know if I like the book I don’t really like buying any so I usually look for the free ones in the books app on my phone, sometimes Wattpad, or read books that my sister has bought.

I have never really liked writing so I do not do it very often, however, I have recently liked it a bit more because I was getting more practice in high school which made me improve. I feel that I would like writing more if I found better skills and styles that suited me more, but it is hard when they only use one style in school. When I do write it is usually random stories with ideas all over the place, or sometimes about how I feel and things I want to get off my chest. I think that writing is very helpful for your mental health and to help you reflect about yourself. For tools, I usually just use a notebook and pencil when I am at home, and sometimes the Notes app on my phone if I have no paper at hand.

1.) As of right now my relationship with reading is good I read for at least 30 minutes a day. I feel like reading is an escape from the real world and a good book or comic you can really help you find inner peace. My relationship with reading haven’t always been good because I could not stay still so I looked for books that interested me like comics and a lot of fiction. The only tools that I’ve used that come to mind are audiobooks ,highlighters ,and book marks. These tools really helped me comfortable when I was reading and help me out a lot.

2.) On the other hand writing and me are a different story we always had a love hate relationship. I like to writing at some times but at other times i feel like I’m just putting words on a piece of paper. Sometimes I just think I have so much to say but when I put it on paper it’s a whole different story. I usually don’t write out of school but if I do it’s just something like a song or poem that inspired me in that moment. The biggest tool that I use is my teachers when I was writing and I didn’t know how to start or if my story needed a different point of view. Another tool i used is the internet if your having a problem just know at least one other person is having it too and it’s a lot to refer to.

1. My relationship with reading is alright at the moment. I do enjoy reading books whether they are historical and about the holocaust or if its even a book being recommended to me can catch my attention sometimes, not always though. Once I have a book that fits my interests I do continue to read it mainly and preferably at night, that is where most of my reading will happen. Reading does help me with my stress and my vocabulary so I’d say I have a positive association with reading. Though I have not read for a while now and in order for me to actually read a book I do have to have it physically. If i'm being honest i have a short attention span so reading through somewhere electronically, does not help me with my engagement

2. My relationship with writing is not so good, I don't feel super confident about the way I write. I feel as if I am not prepared enough for some reason. Although I have recognized when my writing is not good which has helped me in terms of finding the small mistakes and fixing them. Throughout the summer I also bought a journal and I started journaling. I have been writing about some things that have been repeatedly on my mind. I think this has helped me improve with not overthinking about what to write next instead just writing about what comes to my mind.

1. My relationship with reading as of now is great. I recently finished reading the novel Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. I usually take breaks after reading a book because if I start reading I cannot stop myself from finishing it. But this is a series so I have already started reading the second part. Mystery is one of my favorite genres and I usually look forward to reading books with complicated plots. Non-fiction books are my least favorite and I get bored reading them easily. I mostly borrow books from the public library or read novels on online apps like Wattpad. I have also started reading a lot more literature novels and after reading the books I try to find movies on the books to compare the two. It is also nice to see if something in the movie would look like how I have imagined it.

2. I like writing but only when there are no rules to it. For me writing for assignments is different from writing in my free time because I can enjoy it more without worrying about the rules and requirements for it. I enjoy writing fiction stories based on my imagination and interesting things that I see online. I like to focus more on fiction than reality while writing. I usually use apps on my phone or a notebook to write down my ideas before writing. It's hard for me to start writing something instantly but once I start it usually goes in a flow.

Currently, my relationship with reading is getting better. When I was younger I used to read a lot of books, but as I got older I managed to read less. However, over quarantine I was able to read more books than I normally do. The specific genre that I read was young adult novels, specifically thrillers or dystopian books. I enjoy reading these genres because they are able to grasp my attention throughout the book, making it a quick and engaging read. I prefer to read either before bed or on the weekends, which is usually the time I have more time to read and don’t have to worry about doing other tasks. At the moment, I’m trying to get into reading self help books because I want to focus on my self growth and become more disciplined. However, I have difficulty reading these books since I have trouble staying focused and would prefer to read a young adult book instead. The tools I use to read are my Books app on my phone, physical books in the form of hard copies or paperbacks, and online websites where downloading books is free. I download the books and add them to the Books app on my phone since it’s free and I always have my phone with me to read them. The only issue I have with downloading them is that using my phone too much hurts my eyes so I prefer hard copies of books. I have always had a positive association with reading due to the enjoyment it brings me and I’m glad that it’s a quiet, peaceful activity.

At the moment, I don’t have a strong relationship with writing. I mostly write for my classes and over quarantine I was assigned less writing assignments. The type of writing I did in my classes mainly revolved around works of fiction and poetry. To do this work the tools we utilized were google docs, kami, google slides, plagiarism checkers, and grammarly. Currently, I’m not that confident in my work due to not having that many writing assignments this past year. I’m hoping to change that in the future, by one day starting journaling through buying a notebook that includes the writing prompts already, but I haven’t found one that I would like to buy. I feel like I would find this most enjoyable since I don't have to focus on writing rules or rubric guidelines.

1. I don't think that I have ever had a terrible relationship with reading before. I also don't think that I have ever had an awesome relationship with reading. Growing up, I wasn't able to explore books because books equal money-which I could not afford to spend. Now I know that I like reading historical, informational, or biographical books. The most recent book I have read is, African American and Latinx History of the United States by Paul Ortiz. I like these types of books because I always end the books with a different perspective on serious topics. It gets my mind thinking of what types of privileges I have to help others. I prefer to read physical copies of books over books online because my vision starts to get blurry when I read online for too long.

2. At first, I was confident with my writing skills. I was praised by my teachers in elementary, middle, and early high school. Then, I got to a point where my skills were neither good nor bad. I definitely felt that my writing was lacking but I did not know who to go to for help. I felt that I completely stopped growing in my writing skills at a certain point. Although I think that the pandemic has some effect on that, I believe my frequent absences from school hindered me the most. I also do not write in my free time, I only write for school assignments. In my school assignments, I think that argumentative or analysis essays are my stronger writings. However, I still think that my skills are lacking and I still haven’t had the sense of growth in my skills yet.

1) Reading is a passion of mine since I was younger. I love reading the Harry Potter series over and over. As of now, I haven't been reading as much since the library was closed for the longest and I love reading library books. BUT, I found out an easier way to read my library books through this app called Libby that just requires your library card info and you receive ebooks/audiobooks at the reach of your fingertips. I am currently reading Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyers since a lot of people recommended it to me. I am a sucker for fantasy or suspense novels. I find it interesting how authors create a world from their minds that they know everything about! Suspense books intrigue me because they don't rely on jumpscares or sound effects, it's the words and how they phrase them that gives you all the chills.

2) I love to write! It's been a dream of mine to write and publish a book since I was in the seventh grade! Though it's a bit hard to write fiction because all we learn in school is how to write argumentive essays or analyzing texts. I have rewritten the first story I want to publish so many times because I learned how to write better and developed my fictional world. I am a lover of anything spooky, creepy, or paranormal so it's no surprise most of my short stories involve mystical creatures. Some examples are vampires, shadow creatures, and elemental beings. But, that's enough about my story because I will ramble about it for a very, very long time. The tools I use are Grammarly, Reedsy, Thesaurus, Google Docs, and regular ol' pen and paper.

1. My current relationship with reading as of right now isn't that great since I haven't been reading as much compared to last year because in my English class our teacher would assign us a book of our choice and I would enjoy the reading assignments since most of the books I've read were based off of our current society and its expectations. I do take some time to read some romance, fantasy, drama and I enjoy reading fiction. I do sometimes procrastinate in the books I read and it takes me a few weeks to finish a specific book. I also sometimes read articles about our current situation of the pandemic and its process during this year. One of the apps I use to read fiction is Wattpad. Im currently reading "Midnight Sun" by Stephanie Meyer which is part of the Twilight Series. There are some times where I read books online and I lose track of time and sometimes get lost in the world of fiction.

2. As of right now my writing is lacking and I don't write unless its for an assignment, other than that I don't write at all. In the past when I was still in school physically my 11th grade teacher would tell me my writing was great since I would get her feedback and she would review my writing assignments. Throughout her (my English teacher's class I would get some mini shoutouts of how good my writing was. I would feel like I write better when I have no distractions and I understand the topic im writing about. I also prefer writing on paper rather than my laptop. I also felt as if my writing is better when I ask for help and place my environment in a place where I can concentrate. I do feel like I haven't written for some time.

As of right now my relationship with reading is pretty good. I recently finished the book I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Ericka Sanchez. I actually have a couple of books I need to finish before I buy new ones. I especially read when I am in the mood and or have time to do so because I get easily distracted. I enjoy reading a variety of genres, such as tragedy, fiction, novels, and self-help nonfiction. I typically alternate between my fiction and self-help reads. I read fiction for fun; whereas, I like to take notes when I read my self-help nonfiction books. The tools I use depend on the genre of my book. For instance, I only use post-it page markers to mark parts that I resonated with and or found interesting in the fiction books. In comparison, the tools I use when reading self-help books are post-it notes, post-it page markers, a pencil, and an eraser.

My current relationship with writing is decent. I typically only write formally for school; therefore, I mainly wrote essays and research papers. But I didn’t have too many writing assignments this year due to remote learning. The tools I use for school assignments are Grammarly, google docs, and google. On my personal time, I like to journal, my journal consists mainly of letters, observations, some amateur poetry, and some drawings. I chose to start journaling as a way to release my emotions and thoughts. I feel that through writing it is easier for me to express my feelings. The tools I use are a journal, pencil, pen, and eraser.

1. My relationship with reading right now is recovering and improving because the majority of my time in middle school and high school was spent focusing on how forced it felt. The assigned texts and time limits bred my resentment of reading. It wasn't until my senior year English course that I was able to break the negative emotions because it introduced me to several genres, writing styles, and cultures through a method different from previous years. I read many translated texts like Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, which came to be known as the monster of the course because of how complex, confusing, and long it is along with its capabilities to challenge our morals. I was able to refine my interest in books that have the capacity to break your perspective on certain aspects of life. Specifically, I found that I enjoy reading mystery and fiction books. While I am not currently reading right now because I needed a break, I have invested more time in looking for new things to read. I do not usually use tools online to read because I like having a physical copy to annotate and stay focused.
2. My relationship with writing right now is alright. I have not done academic writing papers that include analyzing texts or complicated essays, but I am practicing writing creatively. That includes producing my own poems and stories even though I spend more time studying how to write them than producing anything. I enjoy this type of writing because I have the freedom to explore different styles, genres, and purposes behind what I create. It feels liberating to let my ideas flow. I use google docs or actual paper since it depends on how much I plan to write and the format.

1. As of right now, my relationship with reading is okay, I haven't been on top of my reading lately and I know I should. I used to be on top of it as a kid, I always had a high reading level and enjoyed spending my free time reading. As I grew older, I began to disregard my reading. I guess I just lost interest in it. I want to get back into reading but I haven’t found the time to actually sit down and read something. I also don’t know what I want to read so it’s hard for me to be motivated. Eventually I will start reading again but for now my relationship with reading is okay.

2. My current relationship with writing is also okay. I wrote a lot during my attendance in high school and it was fun. I liked writing essays and doing writing assignments but I felt like it has been a long time since I have written something. I don’t really practice writing in my free time so I can see why me and my relationship with writing kind of fell out. I think I should write in my free time though because I want to improve my writing. I used to believe that I was a pretty good writer but after seeing my peers I knew I had room for improvement. I love writing because it helps me get things off my chest and helps me learn new things. During this course I hope I can use my passion for writing to my advantage and also learn new things.
