Last week I was late to start the FMP as I was still completing unit 13's work, Some research that I completed last week was 1 mind map and 3 mood boards, the mood boards helped me as they gave me a visual reference of similar short films I could create although I feel I could have done something with more impact for my research, looking back at these mood board does not help me or sway me to pick a specific idea. Also when picking my ideas on my mind map I did not include the word opportunity, this is something I will focus on this week with my research and branch out further with. I chose these 3 different genres of short film because I am mostly interested in the darker side such as sad and horror films, but the comedy side is to fall back on, I feel this could be a lot harder to dol.

Strengths and weaknesses?

I feel a strength of mine is defiantly creating an image for a darker film, I am very creative in this way, I know I am interested in these genres much more than the comedy side. As I have already completed a short horror film I am leaning towards the sad genre more so but I am open to exploring all 3 ideas. 
A weakness of mine is not critically evaluating my work and describing what I did too much. I will make sure during this project I will be much more critical and mention how I feel about the things I did, and give reasons for why I have done this. Not just describing what had happened. 

How Understanding and interpreting the brief has helped me?

Making the first mind map based on the brief helped me get a better understanding of the brief because we looked through the different aspects which were important, such as the word opportunity, the criteria and the grading matrix, I feel I could have a better understanding of the brief so I will make sure this week I take the time to go through and read it all properly. 

What problems have I had this week?

My first problem was starting the FMP late, this really worried me and stressed me out as I was 2 days behind everybody else. This week I will make sure I catch up on all my research documents and do my Harvard reference bibliography. Another problem I had was not including the work ' opportunity ' in my mind map, I am yet to resolve this problem, it has impacted my project ideas because I have not included how I will incorporate the word into my chosen short films.

Last week I set myself targets to complete such as - working on my bibliography, starting contextual and audience research , also to incorporate the word ' opportunity ' into my work. I had effectively completed the bibliography so far, I found this easy as we have done a Harvard reference bibliography many times before for our projects. I also completed some contextual research, I done a film deconstruction and gave my opinions on 4 different films. I enjoyed doing this and I felt it was effective research because it gave me ideas of how I can structure my film, it also helped me make my decision on what Id like to do for my FMP. I am strongly leaning towards a short horror film, as I have already completed a successful horror film which was my idea, I feel I could do this again. Also 2 of the 4 films I chose to deconstruct were horror films, I felt both of these were more effective than the sad films I watched. Unfortunately I did not complete the audience research last week, this was the only piece of work I have set to complete. I will do this today.

What was most important this week?

In my opinion the most important aspect of work I covered was the deconstruction of films research, as this helped me decide what genre of film I am going to do. I feel this is effective because I now can start thinking about what sub genre of horror film I would like to create. I also may be working in a small group to create this, which I am happy about because I work very well in a group. 

Audience profile research:

I have yet to do the audience profile research, later on today I will start this and get it completed as it is important. This is important because researching into my target audience will give me ideas on what they would like to see/ find scary.

Last week I set myself targets with work to do, such as my job profile, my project proposal and to review 2 horror films I had recently seen. I found that creating a job profile was very helpful because I learnt what skills I require to be a camera man and director, I also found out what responsibilities I will have during these roles. Me and Tilly will be sharing the roles evenly as we are working together to make the horror film. An example of the skills and responsibilities are - I will need to be able to work well with a team and individually (director), I'll be organising the shooting schedules (camera man), Act as a leader (director). I will need to be creative, have good management, an eye for detail, have good listening ability and many more. I feel this is very important to know because it gives me a good idea of what to expect while doing the FMP. In my opinion when my job role was a producer for the music video I could have improved a lot with all too the abilities above. But I had a negative approach to this production as I was not happy with my role or the group I was in. This has changed for the FMP and I will have a positive approach this time. Also while doing the project proposal I found this very challenging because I had to think back to year 1, with everything I had improved on and achieved. I found it easier to create a plan for my project proposal. Following this plan helped me a lot but I am still yet to complete the proposal. In my opinion I think it is a good idea to reflect on everything I have improved on, created, achieved and become. It shows me what I can now improve on for the FMP. 
When creating the document focusing on the 2 new films I has seen I found this very helpful because it gave me ideas on how I could make my own horror film more interesting and original, because the 2 films I deconstructed were very original with the plot basis I feel. Firstly a change made last week was the style of our horror film. We decided instead of doing a supernatural film we will do a monster film. This was a key change because we were so set on doing a supernatural film. We played around with some special effects makeup to create the monster creature. Its going to be a human like rabbit. This change was made because me and Tilly have both created a supernatural film and a slasher film between us. So we thought change was a good idea. Dave helped us with the idea. We also researched into similar short films from youtube. A helpful film and an inspiration was 'The smiling man' we both found this very creepy. This week I am going to focus on improving and finishing my project proposal. That is very important and due Friday. After this I am going to create an adobe spark page for my summery of research. These are the 2 main factors I will focus on this week.

This will I will be focusing on improving my project proposal, once this is improved and finished I will be starting my summery of research. I will be completing this on adobe spark because I struggle with writing a lot on word, I get bored very easily. I feel that I cannot compare myself with a professional camera man just yet, as I have done no work for this just yet, as its early doors with production. But as a director I have been very organised and creative with the idea I have conjured up . As its also very early to compare I feel I am doing well with the director role but obviously not quite up to professional standards just yet. 
During the easter holidays me and Tilly will start our filming on these days, as we live close and are friends it will be very easy for us to meet and arrange some filming days. This week I had finally finished my project proposal, I found this difficult as I was unsure how to word the action plan. As I am working with Tilly I found it very helpful to work together when doing the action plan, so we can make sure we have identical plans for each day. I also completed my research summery this last week. This helped me review all my work and realise what I still have to complete. Now all my research is finished, this week I will begin my pre production work, this is very important as we are making a film, I need to complete the script, story board etc.

I also covered Logo production research, this is very important in my opinion when creating a logo, and knowing what you'd like to see in your production. This helped me a lot because I was able to research and understand why certain colours and fonts are used for horror production logos. For example of this, red green white and black was a significantly popular colour within the horror logos. Before looking into the logo research I had already created Tilly and I's logo for our horror production. Pre production work: For around 2 days last week I was making our egg prop, this took me a very long time and in my opinion I think it looks rubbish. But because so much time and effort went into making this egg prop we will still be using it during filming. I feel this was a problem because I pictured something much better. I feel the shot let came in handy while filming because we had this to refer too while shooting. The location photos look great on the padlet wall, this fattens up our evidence I feel. The location drawing was just to set the scene slightly for Lorraine and Dave so they can understand what the set will look like. The budget is for us to refer too when buying props and other stuff we may need, just so we do not go over our spending. To compare myself to an industry example I would use is Tobe Hooper. He is a famous camera man, As I am also a camera person I have chosen him. I feel I have been as professional as possible. Although I have defiantly not been s professional as Hooper.

Pre production:
I have surprisingly enjoyed completing a lot of the pre production work because I would rather complete this than edit the movie. The shot list I completed did come in handy today. Last week we spent a lot of time finishing the filming, and going over the shots that we had to re-do. Our first camera we had to film with was one of the oldest cameras in the media department, this was a huge problem for us because a lot of the filming was blurry or unclear. So we decided to go back and shoot nearly everything again. This was not a huge problem for us as the actors were very available for more shooting. 
One of my main responsibilities last week was being camera man, I did enjoy this as I needed to improve my camera and filming skills. I feel like the has paid off and I am happy with how the shots have turned out which is great for me and Tilly. This way we won't have to go back and film again.
I tried getting some creepy shots from a far, as if something was watching the family while they have a picnic, I did this because I tried to consider the audience and what they will find creepy, I felt this was a good shot because it gives the effect that somebody or something is spying on them through the trees. 

Practical problems while filming:
The first practical problem I had was being the actor, as I played the antagonist in the film there was some issues with the costume. The mask I wore was extremely hard to see out of, I didn't know where I was walking for a lot of the time while filming which was very hard for me to act scary. 
Another practical problem I had with the costume was the clingfilm fingers we had made, they were not tight enough around my fingers so they did keep falling off during filming.
Also Tilly's younger sister got inpatient while acting, as she is only 5 she did have enough after an hour. But this was not a huge problem as she is very close and comftable with Tilly. But overall she did do very well, and we are so pleased with how well behaved she had been.
Lastly a practical problem was having members of the public close to where we filmed, this was a problem because we did not want any of the public in the film. This would reduce the creepiness of the film towards the audience, we wanted the woods to look empty. 

Technical problems while filming:

The first technical problem we experienced was the lighting while filming in the forest, although it was sunny outside the forest was still dark from all the trees. We did try filming with the flash but this did not help much. Me and Tilly are going to brighten the scenes while editing. But having t a little dark is not too bad as it will look more scary, instead of day light. 
Also another technical issue was our first camera, I have already spoken about this, but it was a huge issue as a lot of the shots came our blurry and un focused.

After we had finally finished all the filming last week we had the chance to edit it all together. As I am director it is my job to help Tilly out and watch over what has been completed and being done. The whole film is nearly finished being edited which we are both happy about. In my opinion we have done well with completing this so quick with minuscule problems. We also filmed foley to add to the film, we did not need much so this was very easy. We used the TazCam that Dave had given us. This only took a few hours to complete. I also complied more pre and post production work which I believe went well. Last week was a very productive week.

My main responsibilities last week:

As I am director and camera person, my main responsibilities were making sure we had all of the correct footage. Observing the editing, and completing all pre and post production. I feel I have done well with my job roles this week, there have been no major problems with anything. 

Development changes I had made:

The only development changes I have made was to a poster I created for Showtime. I got some effective feedback from Lorraine, she explained to me that changes needed to be made, as the logo was catching her eye more than the films title. I feel the way I have changed the title and the logo looks a lot more professional. On Tuesday I completed all the pre production work that is compulsory, I have enjoyed doing this. It has not been hard and I have had hardly any major problems which has been a relief. the main light is a 'key light' which is used to light the subject. this is slightly above the subject and about 45 degrees away from the camera to one side. i will be doing this as it creates shadows. shadows=depth and give the subject a 3 dimensional look.

The second light will be 'back lighting' this will be done to light the back of the subject. 

The third is a 'fill light' this light fills any shadows and making them less dramatic. this light is placed on the opposite side of the key light.

The showtime event went really well although our short film was slightly dark on the big screen. This was a big problem for us because while editing we made sure it was not too dark. In my opinion I think it was too dark because the lights couldn't be turned off in the PC room. I tried to turn them off but it wasn't possible. We received a lot of effective feedback from 6 people who came and watched the film, a lot was positive feedback but also some negative.
