Surah Al-Furqan; 63-74

-Allah describe how His Servants should live humbly with dignity and speak kindly

Khalifah (Leader)

Surah Al-Baqarah; 30

-Human are chosen by Allah as His Vicegerents to manage the earth responsibly, even though we are prone to mistakes

Khair Ummah (The Best Nation)

Surah Al-Imran; 110

-Allah praises the Muslim ummah as the best community that brought forth to mankind as enjoined the rights forbid the wrongdoings and have true faith in Allah

-human more honourable than the Angels

Ummatan Wasatan (The Balanced Nation)

Surah Al-Baqarah; 143

-being ‘middle’ means upholding justice and fairness

-Christianity failed in fairness -> forbid priests from marriage, while marriage in Islam is worship

-Judaism failed in fairness -> altered Kitab Taurah to reject Prophet Muhammad as he was from the Quraysh

Belief in Allah ☪️

• Quran emphasises Allah’s Oneness, Creation and sustenance of the Universe

  Surah Al-Baqarah, ayah 163

• Application:

  -regular 5 daily prayer

  -Quranic reflection —> tafsir (explanation of Quran by scholars) & tadabbur (personal reflection)

  -observing the natural world’s order

  -believe in the way Allah is described in Quran & Sunnah

Belief in the Hereafter⏳

Surah al-Baqarah;2

And who believe in what has been revealed to you, (O Muhammad), and what was revealed

before you, and of the hereafter they are certain (in faith).

• Definition:

  -everything will be destroyed on a fixed day called al-Qiyamah (The Last Day)

  -resurrection (al-Hashr) – All people will be brought back to life and gathered before Allah for judgement.

  -every person’s actions will be presented before Allah

  -great virtue will be rewarded while those with more sins than good deeds will face punishment

  -the successful will enter Paradise while the sinful will be sent to Hell.

  
  

• Importance:

  -message of all Prophets —> every prophet taught to belief, denial is kufr

  -guides human actions —> avoid useless actions & focus rewards

• Effect:

  -shows Allah’s greatness and perfection

  -creates love & desires to meet Allah —> the greatest blessing than all pleasures of Paradise

  “Those who do good will have the best reward (Paradise) and even more (the vision of Allah).” (10:26)

  
  

Belief in Rasul and Anbiya’ 🪽

• Definition:

  -Allah sent Messengers to every nation to call people to Tawhid

  -all prophets were truthful & trustworthy

  -believe equally

  
  

• Prophets and Message of Tawhid:

  -all prophets preached to worship Allah alone

  Surah Al-Anbiya’ : 25

  -Obedience is faith —> obeying Prophet= obeying Allah

  Surah An-Nisa’ : 80

  -all prophets carried same religion—> rejecting 1 prophet= rejecting all

  The Prophet ﷺ said: “The prophets are brothers with different mothers, but their religion is one.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

  
  

• Necessities of the Messengers:

  -guide humans to worship Allah alone

  -explain purpose of life as worship & test

  -show path to Paradise & save from Hell

  -proof against humanity

  -reveal the unseen (Allah / Angels / Hereafter)

• Special Blessings for Prophet Muhammad:

  -sent to all mankind & jinn

  -Allah gave victory by striking fear into his enemies

  -Earth became a mosque and purification

  -war booty was made halal

  -granted highest intercesssion (syafaah)

• Applications in Daily Life:

  -gratitude —> always thank Allah and people

  -tolerance —> be gentle & forgive

  -repentance —> always seek Allah’s forgiveness

  -simplicity —> avoid making religion hard

  -equality —> treat all people the same

  -moderation —> practice balance

  -patience —> endure test calmly

  -humility —> avoid arrogance

  -accountability —> check our own faults first

Belief in Qada’ and Qadr

• Everything happens by Allah’s Knowledge, Will & Decree

• Allah has already planned all things perfectly in Luh Mahfuz

• Definition:

  Qada’ - Allah’s execution of what He has decreed

  Qadr - Allah’s prior knowledge & planning

• Components:

  -Knowledge —> Allah knows everything

  “Verily Allah is the Al-Knower of everything” (Surah Al-Anfal : 75)

  -Writing —> everything is recorded

  “Know you not that Allah knows all that is in heaven and on earth? Indeed, it is (all) in the

  Book, and that is easy for Allah” (22:70)

  -Will —> nothing happens except by Allah’s Will

  “If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it” (6:112)

  -Creation —> Allah created all things perfectly

  “He Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed” (67:2)

  
  

• Benefit of Belief:

  - peace of mind

  -focus on present (not worrying too much about past/ future)

  -gives strength & determination

  -teaches humility & contentment

  -build trust in Allah

  -remove envy & jealousy

Ihsan

• Highest level of faith after Islam and Iman

  “Worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, know that He sees you.”

• Definiton:

  -Literally —> from hasana ( good, beautiful, proper)

  -Technically —> doing things with excellence

• Ihsan in Quran & Hadith

  Surah Al-Nahl 16:90

  -Justice —> giving others their right

  -Ihsan —> giving more than required

  Surah Al-Isra 17:23-24

  -be excellent to parents

  “Allah has prescribed Ihsan in all things. If you kill, kill well; if you slaughter, slaughter well.” (Hadith Muslim)

  
  

Islamic Eschatology (Belief in Afterlife)

• Definition:

  -Greek —> last discourse

  -Islam —> the Hereafter

• Significance of Belief:

  -all prophets taught belief in the afterlife

  -ensure justice

  -motivates people to live righteously

• Concept in Quran & Hadith:

  -end of the world

  -Quran promises Paradise for believers and Hell for disbelievers

  
  

Relations to Ihsan:

• Eschatology is part of the fundamental of Din

• Al-Muhsin (one who practices Ihsan) worships Allah with sincerity, does good deeds with excellence and is rewarded with Paradise

What is Adab ?

• أدب —> to refine, educate & discipline

• refers to good manners, morals and appropriate actions derived from the teachings and instructions of Islam

Adab (manners) VS Akhlaq (morality)

• Adab —> the proper or improper behaviour of a man

  Outward behaviour that people show

• Akhlaq —> why such actions are proper or otherwise

Adab Towards Parents 🫅🏼👸🏻

Surah Maryam 19; 41-50

• Always speak to parents kindly even when they are wrong

  Ibrahim A.S. spoke gently to his father and called him “O my father” with love and respect.

  
  

• Advise parents softly and use wisdom

  Ibrahim A.S. reminded his father that idols cannot hear, see, or help anyone.

  
  

• Be humble when giving advices even if we know more about it

  Ibrahim A.S. mentioned that Allah gave him knowledge but he did not boast about it.

  
  

• Show love & care when correcting our parents

  Ibrahim A.S. warned his father about the punishment for following Satan out of care and concern.

  
  

• Stay patient & respectful even if parents get angry

  When his father threatened him (Ibrahim A.S.), he replied calmly: “Peace be upon you. I will pray for you.”

  
  

• Obey Allah first but remained polite & peaceful to parents

  Ibrahim A.S. left his father’s people and chose to worship Allah alone.

  
  

• Good manners & patience bring Allah’s blessings

Sumud —> steadfastness or strong spirit

Flotilla—> a group of ships

A group of ships sailing to deliver food, medicine and supplies to the people of Gaza and protest Israel’s blockade

Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45

  - Instill awareness of Allah —> reminder present’s of Allah

  - Restrain from immoral behavior —> prevent bad action

  - Encourages obedience—> follow Allah’s command

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:197

  - Discipline believers —> follow Allah’s command

Excessive large movements

Presence of impurities on clothing or body
