The novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, is written in many different point of views. To be specific, 6. August, Via, Summer, Jack Will, Justin and Miranda. These are all written in first person. This helped me understand what they are feeling, etc. I liked reading from different point of views, because you know how ALL of them are feeling, not just August.

I think the title Wonder is a good title, but it doesn't quite fit the story. Yes, August's mom does call him a wonder, but I feel that there is a better title for it. I chose Living Life as August. I chose this title because I think it would better fit the story. Even though the story has many different characters telling the story from their point of view, it is mainly focused on August. The story tells how he grows up. Such as, having a play date with Christopher to graduating from the 5th grade. In conclusion, this is why I feel that the title I chose better fits the novel.

At the ending of Wonder, August and his peers graduate the 5th grade. I personally admired the ending. I think it was a perfect ending, because the book started out with Auggie all skittish and hesitant about going to school. At the end, it concluded with August all happy and excited, graduating with his peers. If I could change anything about the ending of the book, I would make it in Mom's point of view.

The story Wonder took place in North River Heights, NY. The school environment is acceptable. Beecher Prep School is tremendous , but the students like Julian aren't that friendly towards August. Such as when he called him a freak in front of Jack. "You know you don't have to be friends with that freak if you don't want to be" (154). Auggie's home environment is swell. Everyone is nice to him and he doesn't have to worry about bullies or any of that nonsense, because he is surrounded by his family. "

Character Traits for August

In the book Wonder by R.J Palacio, August has some character traits. One character trait I gave August was brave. He is very brave. He was born with a facial deformity and has had 27 surgeries since he was born. He also has to face the reality of going to school with a cleft palate. In the book, August states “I’ve had 27 surgeries since I was born” (4). Another character trait I have August was intelligent. The reason I say August is intelligent, is because in the story, his parents have him an “IQ test”, but, it was really a test to get into Beecher Prep and August passed. Supposedly, Beecher Prep School is a very hard school to get into and that’s saying something, if August passed. On page 11, Dad states “We should’ve told you a month ago, when we found out that you got in.” In conclusion, this shows how Auggie is intelligent and brave.

In the novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, Julian has different character traits, but they are not good ones. The first character trait I gave Julian was Rude. At times Julian could be rude, sarcastic, etc. For example, at the tour, Julian was pointing out the obvious. Like August didn't know anything. On page 25, Julian stated "This is a Science poster, this a an eraser"... Another character trait I gave Julian was mean. Julian is very mean and harsh. It's like he just says things without think, even if it's rude. An example would be, during the tour, he asked August a rude thing about his face. On page 29, Julian also states, "What's the deal with your face, were you in a fire or something?" In conclusion, these are the character traits I gave Julian. He's not very nice at all.

In the novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, there is a theme. I think the theme would be "Treat others how you want to be treated". This means, do to others, what you want done back to you. This theme relates to the novel. In the book, the teacher says a precept. The precept is "Choose Kind" and when you're kind, others will be as well. On page 48, the book states "When given the choice between choosing right or kind, choose kind". In conclusion, I think the theme for Wonder is "Treat others how you want to be treated."

In the novel, there is also another theme. I think the other theme would be Family. This relates to the book, because in either August or Via's part in the book, it's all about family. For example, when the Pullman family is at the park, some kids are making weird noises at August, and Via started yelling at them. This shows how family sticks up for each other. On page 3, August says “One time in the playground, some older kids made some noises. I didn’t hear them, but Via did and she started yelling at them. In conclusion, I think this is another theme for Wonder.

It is graduation day. I’m dressed up all nice and I’m backstage waiting for graduation to start. Mr. Tushman gives us the cue to come out. We all walk out and have a seat. Jack and I sit together and he stares at the back door. “Why is he here?” Jack says. I look at the back door and it’s Julian! “You can’t be here” says Mr. Tushman. But, Julian pushes him out of the way. He comes up on stage and says “This is the kid that punched me in Science class!” and points over at Jack Will. Then, Julian walks over to him and knocks him out. I try to stand up to him, but all I saw was his fist. The last thing I remember, was that I woke up in the ER. “Julian has gone to Juvenile Detention.” I hear Mr. Tushman say. “He said he wanted to get revenge for what happened in Science.” “Well, why would he punch me?” I replied. “August, you tried to stand up to a bully that’s 2 times the size of you. Plus, he never really liked you.” Thank God I don’t have to see him next year. I thought.

The novel Wonder by R.J Palacio was amazing. I personally loved it. I would rate it 4/5 stars. It was a good book, but there are some things that I would change. Such as, adding a Mom point of view. For the most part, I loved the book. Like the part when Jack punched Julian, because it showed what a good friend he is for sticking up for Auggie. "That's when I punched him. Right in the mouth" (154). The book is about a 5th grade boy named August Pullman who lives in North River Heights, NY. But, he has a major facial deformity, and has to live like that every day, with people staring at him and making fun of him. The lesson the author is trying to teach is Family is most important. The book has some strengths and some weaknesses. The strengths of the book are that the book is written in different point of views. Also, she uses figurative language. The weaknesses would be. I would recommend this book to the 9+ age group. I would recommend this book to someone else. It is an awesome book to read, and I think others should read it too. It gives you mixed emotions. Happy, sad, annoyed, mad, etc. In conclusion, the book Wonder is an amazing book.

The additional character I chose was Via. Via Pullman is August’s sister. She is always there for him and she is very protective of him. Even when they fight she still loves him no matter what. An example of always being there for him, is when he was getting bullied at school by Julian, and she was there and listened to him. In the novel, Via states, “Sometimes kids are stupid, I said softly holding his hand” (112). In conclusion, this shows how Via is always there for August.
