In the beginning of native times, people learned to hunt, what to eat, and sports. A mississippi band the choctaw indians have created a game called Stickball. They challenge other tribes and have championships to see who has better team spirit. These games have were held in a a open field, usually to practice and play the major championship games. There were two rules for the game. One is to not touch the ball with your hand, the second rule is only use the stick to touch the ball nothing else. If one of these rules are broken then the tribes have small debates and arguments. “ This is especially popular by southern indians,” this sport was created in the south because of the great weather. It was created to boost indian spirits and their strength as well. This is the reason for the championships. Every summer there was a championship match the tribes played in to see who is better. The winner gets a certain piece of land or a resource like food, water, clothing. This sport has grown over the years. In today’s time its called Lacrosse. Back in native times they didn’t have have gear to wear to protect themselves from hurting one another, but today we have helmets and padding to wear so no one gets injured. The indians hunted animals and took fur for a team or tribe uniforms. They had a color from the country there from. Since the sport has grown it has changed over the years, since the native era.

Politics play a large role in Native American tribes. There are overall leaders and there are different ways they are chosen. Not all tribes have been the same in terms of politics, but it is safe to say there is a consistency in basic functions. Family, clan, and village are very important for a social class aspect, but chiefs play the biggest role in the tribes. They make tribal decisions, can have an influence on other tribes, and do most of the communication with English. This all takes place on the East side of North America. This information is relevant in 1654 today, and dates all the way back to maybe even the 1400s.

There are many factors that come into play in determining who can be a chief. A lot of it varies between tribes, but there is recurring basic factors consistent in every tribe. A member who has been a chief in the past may have more of a chance to be one again, compared to an inexperienced tribe member. There may be more than one chief in a tribe at one given time. A Native American tribe member gave their insight, “We sometimes have up to six chiefs, depending on circumstances, although none have authority over an English leader.” The English can often choose a chief to discuss legal papers and make legal decisions. Another member of the tribe shared their opinion on these legal interactions, “There is usually a chief that handles legal situations with the English, but many agree that the language barrier leads to some miscommunication about legal circumstances.”

There are also war chiefs. These chiefs make decisions on conflict based situations. The chiefs usually take young volunteers out to perform a task. A young teenage tribe member gave details to how this functions, “The war chiefs usually takes volunteers, often teens and young adults, out to perform a task that has been carefully planned by the war chief.”
