She was the seventh out of eleven children and was a happy child that loved her family. That was until she was sold into slavery at the age of 8 by her oen parents. Shyima spoke no English and had not experienced any other environment besides the streets of Egypt. She was smuggled in to the States by a "family friend" of the captors that was posing as her adoptive father. When Shyima arrived in the US, she suffered greatly from jet-leg. She never once blamed it on an entire country, but on the people that treated her so horribly. After being rescued, Shyima decided that she did not want to go back to her family in Egypt, for the fear of being sold again. She was put into the foster care system in California and at the age of 17 was adopted by her foster family.
