For example, when Montag thinks about his wife, he associates her with the technology she is unaware is consuming her. When confronted with the question "does your 'family' love you?" she responds with "Why'd you ask a silly question like that?"
Clearly, she is unfazed with the thought of her technology not caring for her, or rather she is unaware of that fact. This is similar to an extent of today's current society. Will the thing we consume care for us like family would? Would it benefit us in the future? Do we even care, or are we simply not aware it cannot? It is possible that just like the technology used to spy on and dumb down the society for the government in Fahrenheit 451 is just like ours.
