Background Information:
In Northern Iraq during the year of 2014, a genocide started. Christians, Yezidi, Turkmen, Shabak, Sabaean-Mandaean, and Kaka’i minority populations were persecuted and killed by ISIS and other terrorist groups. This occurred, because the terrorists wanted revenge on the religious minorities.
Response:
The world responded to this act with military intervention to try to stop the violence.
Similarities to the Holocaust:
The minorities were driven from their homes, businesses, friends, and houses of worship. They also had the fear of being attacks, kidnapped, and killed. There was mass violence and many minorities were targeted.

(Map of the Islamic State Advances on August 14, 2014)

Background information: The Khmer Rouge was a Communist movement that wanted Cambodia to be a Communist country. In 1975 the Khmer Rouge invaded the Cambodian city Phnom Penh and started evacuated the civilians, who didn't believe in communism. The Khmer Rouge wanted a utopia where there was no individuality. This happened from 1975-1979.

Response:
A new government was created by the Vietnamese, the perpetrators were forced west, and the United States voted a new group as leaders, and other countries worked together to aid civilians

Similarities between Cambodian Genocide and Holocaust:
Self Expression, religion, and freedom was taken away from the Cambodians, families were split apart, Cambodians were not seen or treated as people. They were forced to travel and work by soldiers with firearms, all of these themes were present in the holocaust as well.

Backround: The three ethnic groups were the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa. In 1994 a Hutu extremist led government launched a plan to kill all Tutsi's and others who opposed the government's belief. After the civil war the Hutu's went on the radio accusing the Tutsi's of saying they had a plan to kill all Hutu's and that they were cockroaches. Hutu's started giving militias large amounts of weapons.
Response: International community ignored the conflict saying it was internal. Once killing started they still denied to help.
Similarities to the Holocaust: Hutus didn't like the Tutsi´s even though they didn't do anything. They advertised Tutsi's as pests and wanted anyone who didn't believe the same as Hutu's should die.

President Josip Tito kept ethnic tentions in check, but when he died in 1980, Yugosiavia went into chaos. In 1995 Bosnia's army was prepared to cleanse three towns to make them into "safe Havens" to disarmed citizens and peacemakers. Many woman and kids were moved onto buses and transported to government territory to be raped or killed. Many Boys and men were killed immediately. Both the holocaust and the Bosnian Genocide had mostly one group of people killed. For the Bosnian genocide, it was 80% Bosnians. For the Holocaust it was mostly Jews. When the world responded it showed that in the United states in Dayton Ohio ended the war and established two state entities joined by the weak central government.

-Background Information: In March of 2011 the citizens of Syria were officially fed up with the president, Bashar al-Assad and his regime, they decided to attempt a democratic uprising , but ultimately failed. This led to the Syrian government, extremist groups, and outside actors performing horrible atrocities against the Sunni Muslim population as a systematic strategy of war.
-Response: The efforts of foreign governments to help make an impact on the conflict has contributed to the increasing tension of violence between all the groups. Foreign Countries have tried to help however their attempts to resolve the conflict have not helped.
-Similarities to Holocaust: The Holocaust and Syrian Genocide are similar because both the Jews and the Sunni Muslim population in Syria tried to go against a leader and both were displaced from family, friends, tortured, and killed.
Has cost the lives of more than 400,000 people
