Within this therapy it gives the girls a task that they have to complete. Also, due to dealing with horses they have to follow specific rules. It provides a level of teamwork and problem-solving skills in order to complete this task. It is on the girls to decide the consequences for breaking those rules. After, the task is complete the girls have to discuss their thoughts and feelings. As well as what they learned from that specific experience.
Horses are very beneficial with girls at this age. Horses can response to a person's emotional state. While working with the horses the girls have to thus learn to recognize their emotions. As well as working with horses that can be quite large and scary helps the girls to overcome fears as well as build confidence. Also, working with horses allows the girls to develop empathy. For example, if a horse were to become difficult it can be used as a talking point in how the girl can thus get through that difficult situation with it. As well as can guide the difficult teen in learning how to problem solve. Lastly, girls learn how to deal with life situations no matter how large or intimidating.

Equine therapy includes equine activities and/or an equine environment in order to promote physical, occupational and emotional growth. It can help the individual build confidence, self-efficiency, communication, trust, perspective, social skills, impulse control and learn boundaries. Horses' behaviors are similar to humans especially when it comes to social and responsive behaviors. This allows people to be able to form easy connections with the horse.
It is a team approach in which a licensed mental health professional, a certified equine specialist and a specially trained horses work together to facilitate a therapeutic process. Each activity with the horse is designed with specific objectives and themes that enables participants to learn about themselves and others, develop specific skills and overcome obstacles. It also produces experience and learning which helps lead to discussion and learning.

Adolescents could sometimes avoid situations that seem too hard or too stressful. Though, with equine therapy they can choose activities that are outside their own skill level. They can then be assisted as well as can discuss how they are doing throughout the activity. These activities could not only insist on riding the horse but, as well with longing, bathing and feeding the horse. These activities require coordination, planning and active communication.
